Meetup at Portchester Castle car park, Waterside Lane, Fareham, South East at 17:00 on Thursday, 17th July 2025

@BadManners sorry about the lack of a method to change your attendance that doesn’t involve you removing yourself from a meetup and then having to re-add yourself.

This issue has been resolved in the beta version of Drone Scene and will be rolled out to everyone very soon

What’s that building?

To the right and foreground is St Mary’s Church, Portchester dating from 1128. The building centre left is Portchester Castle, a Norman building from the 1100’s

Both are enclosed by the extremely well preserved walls of the Roman fort dating from around 280.

In the background is the old site of Vosper Thornycroft best known for their expertise in high speed craft which led to the building of many of the Motor Torpedo Boats used in WW2.

Let’s take a closer look

This is the site in 1936 when it was just Vosper’s (the merger with Thornycroft took place in 1966)

The site is now known as Trafalgar Wharf and is part of the Premier Group who operate marinas. Just visible on the shore on the right opposite is the upmarket Port Solent complex in which they are responsible for marina operations. Their Trafalgar Wharf building holds up to 300 dry stacked boats.

Another building houses Southampton headquartered Griffon Hoverwork who manufacture, maintain and repair hovercraft.

Shall we try for a little peek?

Nothing to see here, move along please …

Hi Rhys,

Great - you’ve joined! If you haven’t already you could always move over to the Introductions category and introduce yourself. Then. if you join group south-east you will see when meetups are occurring in the local area.

Nice to meet you last night

I’ll add info to the map, much of it taken from the first post setting up the meet

Added

Time for all to add their names to I’ve flown here bit of the map.

I have added our newest member - @Rhys_the_mini2_pilot - to the list of attendees so he should have his socialite badge to display next to his name.

Hi Rhys

It absolutely wasn’t a problem.

Seeing how much you were enjoying flying it was a delight, and so pleased you plucked up the courage to fly it.

Hopefully the experience of meeting us all, with a seriously wide range of drone sizes, and flying the M2P (and MP, briefly), not too mention seeing RTH being demonstrated (and trying it yourself on the M2P), has given your confidence a boost for when flying your drone.

I hope Santa comes good for you.

Keep an eye out on our For Sale & Wanted section in case one is being sold. Items sold on here always seem to be accurately described, and also the seller know to us.

Keep an eye out, you never know when we might have another meetup at the castle.

i will keep an eye out for any on the for sale categorie and im also in the south east group so i get a notification when there is a meet near me

also thanks again for letting me fly the m2p and mp i really enjoyed myself and got more confidence with the mini 2
