I’m organising a meetup at Portchester Castle car park, Waterside Lane :smiley:

When: Thursday, 17th July 2025

Start time: 17:00

Approximate end time: 21:00

Suitable for drone types: Camera Drones & FPV Drones

Additional notes:
Car park is £1.10 per hour between 10:00 and 18:00

No height barrier

Public toilets open until 20:00

Portchester Castle is controlled by English Heritage. Opening hours 10:00 - 17:00, should be empty by the time we fly.

Walks around the walls, harbour views, grassy area to north of car park

If you drop your aircraft inside the castle walls you've lost it unless you can climb a 25 foot wall :slight_smile:

Just outside the Portsmouth / Fleetlands FRZ. I will contact them to find out their operating hours and out of courtesy let them know what we are up to.

Possible debrief / flight reporting in nearest pub at end of flying.

I picked the day after looking at Airdata’s OKtoFly and it seemed the “least worst” option regarding weather. Early evening meet to aid those who work 9-5. The tide will be relatively high at start, gradually ebbing.

Let’s see how it goes.

That place is very beautiful, especially in summer. Last year I went flying there and the wind was quite strong, so take precautions; but everything went perfectly. A great recommendation for a flight meetup. Here’s the link to my video.

Portchester should be dog compatible. There’s a pub, The Comorant, that claims to be dog friendly

We welcome dogs on leads in our bar area so please advise us when booking if you require a table in the dog friendly area.
We have a dog menu, dog treats & water bowls to keep your dog refreshed after a lovely walk around the castle and along the shoreline!

I’ve just noticed it may be crowded -

Quiz Night Every Thursday from 8.30pm
£1 per person, all proceeds go to charity
Maximum 6 people per team
Booking advised - our quiz is very popular!

At least there is something we can do if the weather proves difficult :slight_smile:

Hey Rob @macspite Sorry but the timings for the meet up are impossible for me to attend. I flew all around the castle earlier this year and it is a great location. Maybe next time!

No problem Andy, we’ll see how this one goes -meantime, if you can pick a good location set a day and time good for yourself (and the potential weather), set up a meet and see who responds :slight_smile:

At the moment Alexandra Park is a favoured location of mine and is where I organised my first (and, so far, only) meet up. Both Dave @OzoneVibe and Nik @Nik469 turned up but the weather was a bit iffy! However, looks like we should enjoy some excellent flying weather for a while so I will check my calendar and then get another meet up organised soon.
