Additional notes:
This weekend lets meet at the official Model Aircraft field in Wormwood Scrubs. It's a large space in north-west London explicitly dedicated for flying model aircraft (and of course is therefore great for drones too).
On Sundays, you can fly there between 10am - 1pm (but I personally won't be able to make it until 11am).
Location: ///pump.duty.tides
(we'll meet just north of the circular blob of trees that borders the model aircraft field if you don't spot the drones before then)
See you there!
Please remember to wear your official Membership ID card to this club meetup — it helps other members recognise you straight away.
Official club meetup ID cards and lanyards are available from our shop:
Tagging regional group @group-london to let you all know
A drone swarm this close to the boundary will no doubt trigger alarm bells and we strongly recommend you submit an Exemption Request in case a club member accidentally strays south of the trees.
You can submit an Exemption Request request on the CAA web site by choosing the Airspace Restrictions (including exemption requests)’ option from the “Activity Category” drop down list:
Have had a reply from the Airspace Regulation (Utilisation) Operations at the CAA. They say they need a minimum of 28 days’ notice to action an exemption request.
So for anyone who does still want to attend, please be aware that this is a literal red line you cannot cross with the drone.
I’ll still call the prison on the day though, and/or go and let them know in person, just so they aren’t freaking out!
Drones around prisons is literally the top story on Sky News this morning. Do make sure everyone is crystal clear about the boudary line; it’s a major fine.
I’m actually surprised Hammersmith & Fulham still allow a model aircraft field so close to this establishment given the extension of zones around prisons of late.
