Member and Insurance

I have joined as a member with insurance £25 per year but I would like to confirm if this insurance covers me for the full year as before becoming a member I already had other insurance to comply with the regulations. Can I only keep my membership insurance or should I also keep the other insurance? Thanks for your time.

Additionally, I would like to know if I have to register my flight within the group and how I would do it if the answer is correct. Thanks a lot

Yes, your expiry date is listed on your certificate which you can download from https://dronescene.co.uk/membership

Yes, if our offering of £5,000,000 Public Liability Insurance cover meets your personal requirements.

There is no legal requirement but as our members are responsible operators we recommend they file a Flight Report where possible. You can do this at: https://dronescene.co.uk/flight-reports

Thank you very much for your reply. The insurance covers me even when I use my drone recreationally. I feel responsible for recording my flights like all the colleagues who are part of the team.group. Should I do this before, during or after the flight? Thank you very much again, I am always amazed at how effectively the group is organized and I feel much happier knowing that I am part of it.

We recommend logging your Flight Report in advance. Days in advance if possible. Doing so will give other responsible airspace users greater visibility of your planned flight.

Hi I am a US citizen who is coming over to Scotland in May. I thought I’d tag onto this post and hope I’m not committing a group faux pas as a newcomer! :sunglasses:

I have gotten my CAA flyer/operator license…I am just a recreational pilot.

Is getting liability insurance something you recommend even if I am coming over for just a couple weeks? I have never had a crash…never even come close, but know there’s always a first time, and As I am unfamiliar with UK legal complexities, wanted to get some advice.

Thanks in advance!

I guess it wouldn’t hurt to have it better to be safe than sorry even tho,

God forbid but never say never but no one can force your hand, I guess it’s like saying to yourself all the times I’ve been on holiday but never had to make a claim on holiday insurance, me : I wouldn’t go without it.

I’d also recommend getting insured for the same reasons. I’d suggest getting a US-based insurance provider to cover you for your holiday. You’ll struggle to find a provider in the UK as you’re not a resident

If you have homeowners or renter’s insurance, your drone may be covered for recreational use, check with your existing provider.

Alternatively you could try a provider such as SkyWatch
