Mini 2, just arrived

Courtesy of PingSpike, who charged me a very reasonable price for it, gentleman that he is. I’m hoping that this will mark the end of my saga of disasters; Amazon cheapo, flyaway, then another cheapo that I gave up on and gave away, Mini 2SE that was murdered by seagulls, replaced with insurance money by Mavic Mini with controller that wouldn’t hold a battery charge, replaced with refund money by an FCC one (eBay UK seller) which won’t pair to my CE drone.

The Mavic Mini was not my best idea, constant worry about the wifi connectivity and I like a bit of zoom even if it’s only digital. I know this is cropping, really, but the longer perspective looks good enough to me, And 4K capability is no bad thing.

We ride at dawn, smoke me a kipper I’ll be back for breakfast…

You’ve had your fair share of shit luck, I’m also a great believer or ‘ superstitious rather ‘ that things come in threes, I’m counting four above,
Anyhow I wish you best of luck with this one & happy flying in the days weeks to come, glad you bought it from a reputable seller !

Red dwarf quote??

I’ve heard a lot of bad things about that pinkspike chap, I’ve met him once and appeared ok to me but others say different? Just watch what spyware he and his sidekick beast have installed in your new drone, or you may just end up being the news!!!

Aw, hell yeah, too fuckin’ right I am!!! The rec first for a test flight and to try out some apps, then infinity and beyond, to boldly go where no hooming eye has ever set foot, probably Roath Park Lake, then a beer or 3 on the way home. Sounds like a perfectly cromulent plan to me…

Not kippers as such but I do have smoked mackeral planned for brekkie!

Let’s hope the curse is lifted now.

I won’t hear a word against him. As well as the drone combo, there was a Grey Arrows mug and some Grey Arrows stickers and lapel badges. Man’s a hero!

Whst a guy!

I hope you got a “trees are dicks” one?

You’ll love it, depsite the fact it has been out for a few years it is a very capable done, much more capable than most people realise. I was selling mine but decided to keep it for places I can’t use the air 2. It still surprises me everytime it gets a flight.
Enjoy, but mind we want loads of pictures once you return!

No ‘trees are dicks’ stickers. What I really want os one that says ‘seagulls are twats’. Cos they are…

It’s about the same performance-wise as my gull-murdered Mini SE2 but with a better camera, and I thought the SE2 was awesome. I never really got much out of the Mini 1 because of controller problems, but even if it had worked properly I’d be contantly worrying about the wifi signal.

I had my air 2s and avata2 out today was well happy

Been test-flying, putting her through her paces, over the rec. All successful, was going on up the lake, but the pub tripped me up, as they do…

Dramatised with Nigel Planar playing me, reprising his ‘Neil from Young Ones’ expression; 'And they were all having a really good time, except me!

Looking good for Tuesday; thinking of Barry Island, Nell’s Point, the other end of the beach is within Rhoose Airport FRZ. I have not explored that area since my teens, half a century ago!

I bought the Maven app, which should extend the Mini 2’s capabilities to include geofencing, waypoints, and follow. Good weather forecast for Thursday and Friday so it’s prolly back up the rec to try Maven out; probably not a good idea to try new stuff out for the first time on a ‘live’ filming expedition over cliffs, sand, and open sea, possibly with seagulls.

I don’t spend my hard earned(!) beer vouchers on apps very often, but if this does what it says it does it will be worth it; £18 one-off purchase. I looked at Litchi but Maven seems to offer more and is cheaper. I’m impressed with the idea of polygonal geofencing to keep me out of the trees! Trees are dicks.

Maven is pretty comprehensive, way too much for the mortal remains of my poor old worn out brain to take on in one hit, and I reckon it’ll take a few practice sessions before I get on top of it! Some of these can be homework, as the waypoint stuff (and the geofencing I think) can be preset and not activated until you actually fly. Clever stuff, and I like the ‘co-pilot’ cameraman!

Definitely ataying with what I know for the trip to Barry Island; DJI Fly and a Marco’s cheese and ham panini!
