Mini 3 pro with RC-N1

Is anyone flying a Mini 3 Pro using the RC-N1 controller?

I’ve been humming and harring about getting the 3 Pro and to be honest happy with my RC-N1 controller. I know there’s the little inconvenience of attaching your mobile but in the grand scheme of things that doesn’t bother me. Also I stand to be corrected but I think my iPhone 13 Pro Max is higher in nits than the 3 Pro controller display.

Is not a definite decision but just asking if those flying a 3 Pro with an RC-N1 are happy with the overall experience. :slightly_smiling_face:

I can comment from having owned a Mini 2 then swapping to the Mini 3 with the DJi RC.

The selling point for me was convenience, not having to connect my phone up to the controller to fly the drone. Another plus for the DJi RC, it is quite light whereas the RC N1 with a mobile sat on the top is quite top heavy.

I did read though you can’t transfer images and video directly to the DJi RC. Instead it has to be a transfer between the controller and drone?

I like the option of images being downloaded directly to my mobile device as I can do with the RC-N1.

Its a quick process though drone to device via fast transfer, just another step thats all

I still have the DJi app on my mobile, you can then connect that to the drone for transfer of images and the speed is fast, that is if you don’t want to connect the drone to a computer or remove the card.

You can install the free Mavic air 2 fcc hack on your phone and have the bird in Fcc mode in seconds which atm no sideloading on the RC

From what I’ve read it seems the only way to keep a good connection is to use your phone / tablet via the RC-N1 as all the others seem to have to FCC hack , my eyesight needs a 8 inch tablet anyway lol , I have considered the RC Pro controller but there is no stock anywhere and I’m concerned about the size of the screen on that too .

I have flown my Mini 3 Pro with RC-N1 . No more! It works fine but the RC is just so so so convenient no way would I go back to RC-N1.

Thanks all… Very helpful replies. :+1:

I fly my Air 2s on the RC-N1 with an iPhone 13 Pro and made a conscious decision to buy the RC for the Mini 3. I much prefer the convenience of the RC and for me the screen is better.

On the subject of the RC-N1, if the normal controller where you attach a phone, uses the cellular data from your phone to visualize the geozones and map your flight data, how does the RC-N1 does that if it’s not a cellular unit, do you still need to connect it to your phone perhaps by bluetooth to get the geozone sorted?

Which is the controller you attach your phone too as you rightly said.

Then you’ve mentioned it again did you mean smart controller ?

Ok forgive my ignorance on the matter I am referring to that other controller that comes with the screen incorporated in the unit. My question is, how does that unit manages to get the Geodata, does it have its own GPS system?

I don’t own one of these but an educated guess tells me you would have to tether Wi-Fi hotspot with your mobile device to get the maps / gps , secondly not sure on this one , maybe you can load the maps at home over Wi-Fi before you go out to fly , if I’m wrong I’m sure there is someone on here who can tell you how this can be done , as said educated guess !

Thanks I am sure it will have to be wifi linked to your phone somehow.

I’m sure I may have seen that some where

Edit , Google says
You can use your DJI RC to fly your DJI Mini 3 Pro without internet connection required and you will be needing internet connection when unlocking a Geozones, pre-load map and update the firmware of your DJI RC. Thank you and keep flying. You only need an Internet connection if you want to download new maps.

You can connect the controller to your wifi network at home or hotspot to your mobile phone to get map data etc. As soon as you launch the drone bluetooth and wifi is automatically disabled to reduce interference.

I see… so how does the Mini 3 pro manages the GPS and geodata mapping?

I’m an ignoramus when it comes to instructions, I generally connect the controller to the phone before take off to load the local maps and then let it do its thing and it seems to work fine and all flight information (eventually) uploads to Airdata

you’ll never be as ignoramus as me, I won that contest every year for the last 61 years
