Hi mother nature decide to do a sudden gust of wind just at the wrong moment and my drone now has a broken back right arm, its does not have dji refresh, and wondering if anyone has had a replacement arm from dji and how much? or should i buy one from ebay which i will be unsure if it would be a an offical dji product and get it fixed by a computer/electronic expert that i know? Does anyone know where i could buy a back right mini 4 pro arm, that would be 100% genuine? thanks
DJI don’t sell parts for their drones
yeah i am being told about £180, which is a lot, might just sell the drone instead
Glue it, is it out of warranty?
Loads on eBay
out of warranty, i think i might sell it with controller and batteries, case,
Remove the props, power it up.
Does that motor spin when powered on and are there any other errors?
If it’s Yes then No, in that order.
the drone still hovers, but with the crack makes a noise, i cant fly it like that, but everything is perfect, one blade needs replaced aswell i have that, seems alot of money, but it is an aircraft, and i have looked on ebay for arms about £20, but they do say they are from a genuine mini4 pro, but i cant tell if they are,
If you sell it (as is) you’re just crystallising your loss so a £20 punt on ebay is a good option - there are some youtube videos on fitting a replacement arm but it will help if you have someone with the right tools, steady hands and experience of working with small electronic componentry. The ebay price and a mate doing the work is far better than selling it as the price will be a fraction of what you’d get if it was in proper working order as anyone buying it will defo push for a ‘sold as spares’ price from you…
Has similar event with drone out of warranty (Mini 4 Pro). Decided against glue as I did not want any comprise of the aircraft. I got a quote from Drone Doctor near Brighton. They gave a discount for Grey Arrows members. It was quite expensive can’t remember how much now but they quoted over the phone. I did look on you tube but the repair/replacment was quite complex and meant dismantling the drone to solder the motor wires to the board. it looked quite delicate to do.
I don’t know if this helps but I did consider a replacement arm of ebay and self repair but decided against it!!! after looking at yourtube repair video.
Good luck with which ever option you adopt. You can sent to Drone Doctor and post and it is returned by post. Drone Doctor I was very pleased with their service, although quite dear for a plstic arm!
PS it was over £100 but not a dear as £180 from memory. It is worth a call to an independent repairer such as Drone Doctor and then decide you best course of action.
yeah i phoned drone doctor, they said £180. the drone cable in the arm still works, drone hovers, etc, shame that is all
I have been looking on ebay listings for arms, and a little confused what drone arm i need, i think i need a back right arm, can anyone tell me by my pic if i am wrong? Arm in red is the one i need replaced
If you are a member of the GreyArrows club ask about a discount - if you have someone who is used to very delicated electronics ask them to check it out on youtube to see if they feel comfortable doing the repair. It did not look straight forward and although usually fairly handy it was really beyond my skill set. Drone Doctor did also do a full test and check on the drone before returning it to me and replace one of the light covers that fell off.
Good,luck whichever route you take.
Hi the person i know does alot of electronics and can do car amps, and also salvage ebike batteries and restore them, and used to work in the military field of electronics, the bit i am worried is purchasing a non offical arm from ebay, and it might be wrong weight, and cause issues with balance, i do not know if you can tell by looking if its genuine or not, when i have looked on ebay i am sure i need a back right arm, but they do not make it clear in there listing what i need,
Have you not thought of sending it off to DJI ?
I’m sure it’ll be cheaper
yes, i have been in touch with dji also drone doctor, but it is becoming to stressful drone dr wanted £180, the drone still hovers so the cable etc on that arm is fine, just the arm housing, and that is why i think £180 is to much, and i think this might be the end of drones for me,
If the electronics and motors are all working, and for a repair of that size, EMA Plasticweld is your friend.
(NOT JB Weld!)
It works by fusing the surfaces of the plastic together, and adds no weight to the repair.
Caveats:
- Use sparingly
- Do not get it on your fingers as transferring it to other surfaces will marr the finish.
- Use in well ventilated space.
- Read the warnings on the bottle, then read them again.
- Do not tip the bottle over - it is a liquid, not a gel. Ask me how I know.
For a repair like in the image, splint the arm to close the gap and and get it to the right alignment.
Once the gap is closed, apply the Plasticweld using the tip of a flat bladed screwdriver to the crack, and capillary action should take the Plasticweld in.
Leave to dry for 48 hours - the softened plastic has to re-harden.
Remove the splints.
EMA Plasticweld should cost you about a £5.
Available online, and from any good model maker.
Hope this helps.
thanks i will give this a try, i guess i might do it when the cat aint in the room, she will knock it over and smile and walk away, lol, thanks
