MPB Rant

trying to Sell my mavic 2 pro to upgrade to the Mavic 3 Pro and was fed up with all the scammers etc so looked at selling it to MPB to upgrade.
Filled out the quote form with everything i have and the quote i got for all my gear was £1042. thought thats not bad so started chatting on the online live chat just to confirm everything and explained that it does not include the original charger but does come with a after market YX Intelligent charger (the one that charges all 4 batteries at the same time) and they said thats fine to include aftermarket chargers, so boxed it all and sent it to them.

Today i got an email saying we had to make some changes to your quote!

and it showed this:

  • Quoted price£370.00
  • Higher battery charge Count-£33.30
  • DJI Mavic Pro Charger not included-£500.00
  • RC Cable with Lightning Connector not included-£10.00
  • DJI Mavic 2 Pro Gimbal Protector not included-£15.00
  • RC Cable with Micro-USB Connector not included-£10.00
  • Drone Third Party Filter included+£5.00
  • One or more adjustments caused this items value to be below 0

I sent in a total of 4 batteries with the drone and all are the same charge count
i know one of the android cables were missing but no the iphone one
the gimbal protector isnt the original one but a better one that was on it
and even though one of there staff saying the aftermarket charger is fine to send in they knock off £500 for not having a dji mavic 2 charger

So from an original quote of £1042 they then tried to offer me £637, i have declined the offer as i have explained if you said in the first place that aftermarket chargers are not accepted then i would not have gone through with anything and would not have sen the drone to you

So just seeing on what they say next

-£500 for a charger? :scream:

I’ve noticed 2nd hand retailers getting tight with their pricing. I took a smartwatch to CEX, initial look valued at A grade. Screen protector from new, boxed & all original parts. Left it with them a half hour, went back and they said grade B. Why? The tiniest of a scratch on the underside of the magnetic charging base. I struggled to see it. Walked away with it and sold for more than their A grade price to a watch collector on FB.

I used CEX with an iPhone the screen was immaculate we watched her rub her arm over it and said it’s scratched, we said you just did that reply no. Took it back and as you sold on FB

That is very disappointing, I’ve sold a bundle of kit to MPB and never had any issues. If they are starting to play silly buggers then it’s back to eBay for me.

Too much stock after covid, no one was buying, seen their offers drop for used gear

I eventually sold my original Mavic Air to them and threw in the various accessories I’d purchased/acquired only to get a similar type of response, though not at minus £500.

One of their minuses was for “non-original props attached” -£10 even though the originals, including a second spare original set were in the box!!! I complained and they re-instated the £10. Bizarre approach, but as @yorkie9668 states, I suspect it’s a flood of stock of certain equipment that they need to manage.

I have thought of trying them as I have been trying to sell my Mavic 2 Zoom for some time without success. That has put me off and as the ebay fees would be around £70 I will be avoiding them as well.
Tried Shpock without any success either.
I will advertise here.

I would not get put off, if you have correct gear no problems at all, if you don’t then maybe buy missing part then once again no issue. Service is door to door so take a chance you’ve nothing to lose.

Update after receiving my items back from MPB

My drone and accessories got sent back yesterday in a big box,

I sent in a Mavic 2 pro 4 batteries and smart controller all in a DJI hard case, opened the box to find the hard case empty and all the accessories wrapped up in paper!

Unwrapped the drone and the gimbal protector was off the drone and the camera was just flapping around, one of my batteries was pretty new and sent that in with the original box, come back with no box

Why if you have a case that is designed for transportation not put all my items back in it and just wrap up in paper! Absolute joke

Maybe it’s due to over regulation, or in the main the popularity of recreational drones is waning, or a mixture of both with additional influences, but it is a buyers market and not a sellers market anymore.

I agree it’s bad form on the part of MPB to suggest a value, then proceed to find any reason they can to decrease the value by such a large margin.

But…

… they are a retailer and customers want the same experience as if they were buying new. The Yx charger might offer a better charging experience than the OEM supplied charger, but it is a third party product and not endorsed by DJI. The £300 quoted is a little over the top but having original equipment does add value to a product, and MBP will want to include an original charger which will incur a cost for them in acquiring.

When it comes to DJI products as soon as they release an updated product the perceived value of its predecessor drops like a stone. You only have to look on eBay at the number of V2 DJI products being offered now that the V3 products are now firmly established. When I’ve been quizzed by someone wanting to buy a drone, and 99% of the time it will be a DJI, my suggestion has always been to buy new. If they want to buy secondhand for economic reasons I suggest they buy a current model as opposed to a legacy one purely for the differences in the level of support when/if needed.

Drones are very much like mobile phones and computers, in that what was perceived as top line just a couple of years ago to the average user, is today considered to be somewhat antiquated and it’s best days are long behind it.

As a matter of interest I asked MPB for a price for my Mini 3 pro fly more kit, not that I have any intention of selling it and they offered £305.
£305 for a Mini 3 fly more with extras???

Used drones prices are definitely crashing

If you think that’s bad, try webuyanycar.com they quoted us £600 over the phone and after inspection offered £40 nothing wrong with the car at all.

I just paid £17,300 cash for our DS7 after part ex our old DS4 for £2,500 and immediately went on We Buy Any Tosh to see what they’d give.

£16,600!!! :open_mouth: … A £3,200 difference on the original forecourt price. Thieving POS

Aye, they offered me good money for my Toyota Rav4. Good clean condition, all service stamps, low mileage. Then took it in for inspection, they knocked 40% off. Told them to FO. Ended up part exchanging it for more than they were offerering and less hassle.

Remember they (MBP, webuyanytosh, CeX etc) sell stuff on for a profit, so you’ll be offered less than what they sell it for, it’s part of ‘less hassle for you’ by not having to deal with the infinite numbers of dickheads on the internet trying to offer you less or swap for a Panini sticker album.

So as with anything, you’re better off selling private if you can put up with weeding out the time wasters and getting as much of the full whack as you can.

Poor effort with the way MBP sent the stuff back though, especially considering everything you buy off them comes pretty well packed and usually pretty quick via DPD.
