Hi
Loving all the topics that are an inspiration to get out and fly our drones as often as possible. Would appreciate some feed back, ‘+’ or ‘-’ on my video. I am trying to add subtle and realistic sound effects and fitting music. The effects are loads of fun but do struggle to find good free background music.
This is another attempt with more sound effects to make it seem more realistic. Again, please feel free to comment if it would improve my work.
Both are pleasant videos, the footage is sharp, the colours are balanced and SFX are ok, although the church bell was a little distracting, for me, but otherwise it was fine… You have made a good start, far better than my first video 20 months ago now…
The question is, what are you trying to achieve with the video, a relaxing video set to music o chill out to, a historic recording, documenting your own drone journey, or something else, as the way you film it will determine how it comes over…
For me, some of your moves were hesitant or meandering rather than distinct, which is fine, but it tends to distract the viewer whereas a simple single movement that is carried through tends to engage better - at least for me…
Keep on flying, keep on making videos, but also watch other’s videos and see how they do it, what moves they use, what edits they use and then try them for yourself, adopt that that works, and leave behind anything you aren’t happy with…
And tbh, that bridge was begging to be flown through
Thank you so much for your feedback, it is greatly appreciated!
Re fly through, i did on a return visit and i have that vid on my youtube page. It was filmed with the mini 2se so no obstacle avoidance but i did put on my big boy pants and attempted some more daring moves- without a crash!
Thanks again!
P.s your footage is really impressive!!!
Thanks Andy, I have a bit of OCD / ASD, so anything I do I hyperfocus on it until I get to a good level - although I also tend to hold myself to extremely high standards, so it is what it is…
It’s not about being daring, and obstacle avoidance should only really be a last resort - if you have to rely on it then something will go wrong at some point - what matters more is the view you have and the VLOS that tells you that you are in the clear…
Look at the subject you are focussing on, and what is around you, is there a way to do a reveal at the start, and some way of doing an exit - a flyaway backwards is always good for that, then look at the story you want to tell. The footage of the bridge was good, but the view looking with the town in the background was - at least for me - the better option, so make sure you film in all directions. Plan your shots, try not to change direction or speed of movement, keep your panning, or your flying smooth nd once you are happy and confident then build your moves from a simple forward or sideways to a compound move, add in a height change, a gimbal movement or a combination or moves, and see what they do for you… Often the simplest move is the one that looks the most cinematic…
Just get out, fly, practice, watch others’ footage, talk with he rest of us on here and enjoy yourself… And don’t measure yourself against others, find your own style and use it…
And good luck
Suzanne
Suzanne, where do you get your music from ? Is it a subscription service or free ?
Hi John,
I am married to a Yorkshireman - think a Scotsman with all the generosity removed - so I am not allowed to pay for music, no subscriptions here…
I tend to use the free stuff from Youtube, Pixabay, FreeMusicArchive, and a couple of others that escape my mind, plus some that I play myself on my NA Drone Flute… I will have a troll through the free sites once every so often and download to my archive that which catches my ear, then I have the archive to look at when I want to make a video, usually means I can find something in a few minutes rather than endlessly searching online…
Hope that helps…
Just wondered Suzanne as you have some really lovely soundtracks there ( a lot of the free ones seem to lack something ) I have a Yamaha keyboard I might use to create backing tracks ( if the missus will allow the purchase of a new computer and some decent recording software, later on in the year though) I’ve been looking at the new Yamaha Genos 2 keyboard. I’ll have to really justify the cost of that though, or just chuck the missus out
I would be happy to hear some of your soundtrack and use it myself, hubby is trying to persuade me to get his old keyboard out and make my own music, but time and software are the issues…
Where’s its location? Very nice.
Hi @Phil3, it looks as though you’re quite new here
Why not nip over to the Introductions page, and say hello properly and tell us a bit about yourself.
The tower is Huddersfield in west yorkshire. Free carpark on site.
The viaduct is Conisbrough, south yorkshire. Park on garden lane and then couple of minutes walk to the viaduct. There is also an old castle nearby that is worth dronie.
Look at the following site. I have used music from here for several years:
A good range of music and regular releases.
Graham
Well done Andy. I often use Purple Planet
Or Kevin Macleod

I’m no expert, but I think you struck the right tone/atmosphere on both videos—music makes such a positive addition—Ken
I’m always a bit nervous when flying in a circle whether I might loose reception, but there was no problem with your footage, thanks for sharing that—Ken
Thank you!!
Castle Hill is literally 5 minutes from me. Done many a flight up here
Hi, If you’re looking for a really great Royalty Free/free background music site then try AlshamulevMusic. I use it for my videos and you can find it below. Hope this helps.
