Music over films

Hi All, I recently heard about a website that offers free music downloads. Apparently free doesn’t mean free anymore, well, at least in my experience!! Despite what Roget’s Thesaurus says the definition is! Artist.io is the place I was highly recommended to try. I was told they have thousands of music files that are downloadable for free. I signed up, signed in, chose a tune and downloaded. The tune had ‘watermarks’ on it, ie web advert every 30 secs or so which is clearly useless to use. Despite searching all over the website and even trying the equally unhelpful ‘Bot’, I am still clueless as to where these fabled free files are, if anywhere. Can anyone enlighten me as to whether I am chasing shadows or is there a secret portal to the free files that I am unable to find?

You need to hunt down royalty free music - so they don’t have a Copyright against them basically and that the creator of the music has given it a creative commons license for it to be used ( generally for a non commercial use )

YouTube has a load of free music that can be used though I have never found anything to my liking on it - you can find that in the YouTube Studio page or here. I have also found Soundcloud has a lot of content that can be downloaded for free has no advert type stuff in it that can be used as long as you tag the artist etc in your upload to YouTube - they often have examples of what is required on YouTube for you to use it. I have had some decent results in finding appropriate music this way to use it without getting the video taken down. You may also find a load of content on YouTube in dedicated channels that offer Royalty Free music as long as you tag the artist or sign up to their news letters etc too.

Hi thanks very much for the advice. I have used Eric’ s music, having found it earlier. Very handy. I have also found Artist.io and found that to be really full of interested sounds as well.

Thanks Marcus. I am amazed, once you get immersed in this world, how much resource is available, some of free and some not. Either way, spoilt for choice!
