Must-have apps?

Yes, I’ve just recently been using it more / learning to understand it, to make sure the flight was smooth call it, in what I can’t see if that makes sense
Cheers

I have that as well, but it’s new to me, so still getting to grips.

Other than the drone flying app itself i dont think many are essential.

I do use Drone Assist to log the flight in the field and also because it provides ADSB based traffic notifications if i happen to be in a phone area.

Otherwise, i prefer my flying device to be as slimmed down as possible for reliability and speed. Especially true on smart controllers.

Other non-essential but useful, Windy or apps capable of displaying wind with altitude and different forecast models. Something like ADSB Exchange to get an idea of potential traffic.

I use AirData UAV for flight and health logs but thats a website not an app.

Until they make it compulsory for all aircraft, especially the little ones you are going to encounter whats the point?

Because some is better than nothing.
You cant positively show the airspace is safe but you CAN do the opposite and know there’s definitely a problem or something to be aware of coming your way.

I quite often get alerts from A400s and military helicopters here in areas im flying. Doesnt hurt to have some awareness of that.

Last flight i did in the beacons i got advanced warning of the CG rescue helicopter heading my way, long before i could hear it or see it which gave me time to finish up and get back before it literally flew over the top.

I’ve had airspace alerts activated every times I’ve created a flight plan but it’s never activated? Yes my mobile data is switched on and a full signal service where I fly. Even light aircraft flying over me but obviously far higher than my drone can legally go it’s not sent any push notifications.

Depends if the aircraft is actually sending ADSB or not. Some do, some don’t.
It’s becoming more common but light aircraft using the system are still in the minority in the UK.
The notifications are basic, just an ID, height, speed and estimated closest approach distance and time.

Most don’t

On my DJIFPV I get warnings in the goggles, mostly airliners at 37000 feet

The figures are about 40% for GA currently.
Military transports and helis are nearer 100% though which is very useful (fast jets sadly usually 0).
