So this is a strange one. I have my OP ID printed on the bottom of the drones. I have the Flyer ID too. The flyer ID is due for renewal in 2027.
Before finding GADC I joined a club and on the renewal evening I was asked. Do you have a flyer ID and an Operator ID or would you like us to order one for you. I showed them a printed card with the details and told did not want nor need them to do it and I would always do it myself as the joining of the group and the renewal of the OPID and Flyer Id were 6 or so months apart.
Then a short while later I got a message thanking me for applying for a OP ID. The stupid club had ordered one… and what was worse CHARGED ME FOR IT. I was not happy and told them and they did not care. I contacted the CAA and BMFA (who I was with at the time) I have the e-mails to say that the new one was deactivated. December last year I was in conversation with the CAA and I was saying that I would continue with the current OP ID. So I have just logged into my account and …
If there was ever going to be a problem it would be with my OP ID as there was confusion but looking at the e-mails I can see that between myself and the CAA we were both VERY clear on which OP ID should be deleted. The flyer ID was never mentioned and it is not for renewal until 2027.
Is there a way I can log in using the OP ID as I am now wondering if they stupid club (that I am no longer a member of) created it under a different e-mail address. I have searched my e-mails and can not find any record of it. Whilst I have sent the CAA a message being bank holiday I am not expecting a quick response but at the moment without an OP ID that appears valid (even though it should be) I am limited to non flying withought being exactly sure. Also UAV HUB want a copy of it too.
Years ago I had a breech in security and my e-mail was sold “accidentally” so the company said… BIG company. It cause a major backlash and 30,00 spam e-mails a day. Caused a massive situation. So now I use a method that each company get’s a mailbox. However on this occasion confusion has taken over and I can not find it. The flyer ID is also blank so I am guessing that it is a lost email address. Hopefully they will reply and let me know.
Ah ha, Thanks Onanist and Edison so we have sorted that out so far. I was originally checking in the registration area which did ask for the e-mail address. WIth the link that was sent I could not see it. Then @FoleyMrs checked hers and hers was not there. Then she tried with her middle name and it worked. I tried with my middle name and found both the flyer ID and the operator ID. I now just have to find the address they are linked to.
You can have too many email addresses Russ. I have one for my computer, one for iPad, and one for my mobile phone. When I worked for the NHS I also had a .nhs email address, but access to that was deleted within a week of retiring.
Oh you would not believe how many I have but for good reason.
Years ago there was a company that sold an e-mail address here to my nephew. I started getting bad e-mails. In the end there was all sorts… You would not believe. In the end I had to change my e-mail address and the old one was hitting thousands of spam e-mails a day and the hosting company of the e-mail address were terrible and could not even cap them. It was a long job to tell each person my new e-mail address as I had contacts from years gone by. So I developed an idea. Trusted people got the main e-mail address and companies got the email address theircompanyname@mydomain then if a company abuses my e-mail address I just tell it new messages will go to the bin.
For example.
I took my PC to PC world for a repair. They said, what is your e-mail address? I said I do not want marketing and they said that will be no marketing but it was only for updates on the repair. Ok it is “MAIN E MAIL ADDRESS”. Within a week I was getting loads of e-mails.
I got it stopped in the end after a lot of work. So the next time it went in I was going to say no but I thought, well I do need the updates. So they asked and I gave it them. It was pcworld@mydomainname and once again I got marketing. Then with some detective work I came across the manager of PC World’s e-mail address (or someone high up anyway). I then went into the control panel and told the system that EVERY e-mail that is sent to this address was to be re directed to this manager. You can imagine that after a short while they got in touch asking me to stop forwarding e-mails. I said, stop sending them and they will not be forwarded… Ta da… they stopped.
No chance of e-mail address needed.
It works well but on this occasion I did use an e-mail address that was different to the rest of the drone ones. Forgot about it.
Now found it I can update my lil box.
Anyone who knows me personally will know that it was a major upset years ago. So whilst this sounds a little over the top, it works and I do not get problems. I just forgot on this occasion… Oops.
My usual email addy now is my iCloud one. Only thing I don’t like about iCloud, is it’s crappy junk/ spam filter, which often puts replies to emails I’ve sent into the junk pile.
I have my own domains so I have more power over it.
Personal, work, and others. So I can let the system auto file them. I just add the new company to the list and they all just fall into the catagory. The problem I had with this is the club I joined got me a new OP ID when I said I did not need one. I just got a bit lost with what was what.
Actually it was not a fault as such. I am not a fan of PC World. Back then I bought a laptop from them and within the guarantee it had a major fault. When I say major the mother board cracked jusy by picking it up. The replaced the motherboard saying they had found the fault. No idea how they worked that out as it was cracked. However the laptop was very weak… When picked up you could feel is bending now matter how well and careful it was picked up. That was the first episode and the e-mail started. The board broke again and I was really annoyed and wanted it to be looked at higher up. It got looked again (using the new e-mail addy). It went quite high up where complaints go and it was inspected to actually be unfit for use. They said it was a weak build and that others had been returned for the same reasons so a refund was given. I actuallly came off better as the place I went to had a clearance with a computer that used to be £1500 and was reduced to about £800. So I got a good deal out of it.
