National Indoor Athletics Centre [NIAC] - Cardiff - Added to Sporting Venues and Arenas in Cardiff, Wales

I have just added this to the map of places to fly your drone at Drone Scene:

Not the most inspiring of images, but truth be told I was tired after being on my feet for the prior 8hrs shooting our annual martial arts tournament.

Also, the title is a little misleading as the 'indoor' part is all under that curved white/gey roof. What can be seen is 'Cardiff Met FC' (aka Cyncoed Stadium) and the outdoor tracks which, I'm told, also hosts the NIAC Junior Parkrun.

There is plenty of parking here, but it is at a cost and being private land I don't know their stance on TOAL. However, there is plenty of on-street parking and spots to TOAL and land from and I've marked one of each of these.

The originator declared that this location was not inside a Flight Restriction Zone at the time of being flown on 09/05/2026. It remains the responsibility of any pilot to check for any changes before flying at the same location. Landowner permission may be required before taking off.

p.s. edited to add: do watch out for the speed cameras in this area!

Or, drive properly and don’t speed…

Nearby, off Cyncoed Road, is Cyncoed Gardens/water tower, another good flying spot with vistas over the city, Severn Estuary, and Roath Park Lake. You are about 120’ asl here, a useful advantage as a viewpoint cf many other locations in the area.

Absolutely agree re speed. Just providing a friendly warning.

No idea what you mean by 120’ asl though.

ASL = (120 feet) Above sea level

Thank you.

From that location, 400’ agl + 120’ asl = 520’ asl, legal so long as you don’t fly too far off into the wide blue yonder, and it could make the difference, in a long vista view, between seeing the Bristol Channel between Penarth Head/Lavernock Point and the North Somerset coastline, or not…
