I have the Mini 4 pro and wanted do get some nd filter to help keep best settings while doing everyday flying.
Might help in night time and slow motion. But main focus is every day value
Is this set at £45 good value (in price range)
Freewell All Day-6Pack ND16, ND32, ND64, ND128, ND256, ND1000
Cant spend much more yet but should this do. Is there better at this price range.
As far as I know they’re a pretty good set for the price you pay, or probably the best ( for that kinda budget ) I don’t think I’ve heard any bad,
I’ve never really used filters although I have a freewell ND 1000 & 2000 which are amazing for really long exposures, only used them a couple of times are excellent for moving water or light trails, but as for using them for video & that kind of stuff I have no knowledge but many others on here do
One caveat is to do some research as to when and where you should use them.
Basic set up reasons:
Video to get a shutter speed of circa 2 x the frame rate you are recording to introduce motion blur you see in old film movies and modern digital video. The idea is to set video frame rate to as close to 24 frames per second and the shutter speed say 1/50th second or as clise as possible for both.
Still images or photos that do not need to show movement of water, cars, people, there is no need to use an ND filter as it could introduce camera shake.
Images of fountains or waves etc in daylight may benefit, but bare in mind the drone could move and destroy the shot, that is why with hand held camera photos when using an ND filter, a tripod is necessary.
Night time an ND filter may not be needed, but on a calm day, may help to capture light trails, if the drone moves the shot is probably scrap
Plenty of videos are available on YouTube for standard camera photography, the only difference is the drone has no tripod and may move in the wind.
A polarising filter is beneficial to remove reflections in water or glass etc
thankyou, some grate points, my thought was it seemed a good set to have without spending too much and have many options if and when i need then.
Maybe for now i should just try without (problem is whether)
You know what its like when you get something you want to get what you need if you can lol
- the only thing I’d add is that it can be very tricky to use a polariser effectively on a drone, as clearly there is no possibility of adjusting it in flight. The polarising effect is always greatest if the sun (light source) is in the plane of the polariser (i.e. to the left or right of the camera, rather than behind or contre-jour - in front). So the key is to position the polariser in the same orientation as it will be in the image you are going to take, set it to produce the desired effect, then carefully attach it to the drone without altering it further. Note that the polarising effect can be harder to see on an LCD screen, hence the advice to set the polariser before attaching to the aircraft.
