Hi. If i’m not mistaken, that is the Monument on Portsdown Hill, and on drone scene its inside Lee on Solent airport zone. unless I’m reading it wrong… (wont be the first time)
How did you get permission to fly? I’ve been trying to for ages for something similar with out much luck…
I’d be grateful for any info please
I believe its just outside the FRZ although the DJI made up stuff might get you
I met up with Ian who sorted it all out for us the picture is his YT channel and he can let you know who he emailed and spoke to
Ian also sorted it that we could even fly inside the FRZ so definitely have a chat with him he’s got the email and phone numbers you need
Sorry but i cant work out how to past the web view…
my understanding is that the red is from Fleetlands, the yellow which extends further (not on you pic ) is Lee on Solent Airport…
I’m not Questioning you decision or making suggestions you shouldn’t fly there, I only want to be doing what you do while making sure I’m keeping inside the regs… as I said in me post…( I’m new to drones and am still trying to work out what I can or can not do.)
I may be understanding it incorrectly…
is the Yellow not a NFZ??
@Indy-Garden please turn off the DJI layer
Not sure what you mean when you say NFZ (are you talking about the DJI NFZ?) but the monument itself is outside of the FRZ.
@Tonymc who is Ian? Is he a member here?
So we ignore the DJI app???
NFZ …I thought all airport areas shown were no fly zones… unless permission is obtained.
The yellow area is a DJI NFZ, but they can be very random (and have little to do with the actual UK/CAA NFZ’s)
I believe DJI drop the same restriction on each airport, but you can ignore it … you only need to worry about the ‘official’ CAA FRZs.
I know I’m dim … but that is the red area??
Yes… the CAA FRZ is normally a red circle … with straight sided red rectangles that effectively extend the restriction in line with the runway. The DJI version is a ‘fan / triangle’ shape in the same area
Thanks for putting me strait on that.
Ignoring DJI opens up a whole new area where I live.
What I know about drones has all been picked up by reading as much as I can on here. It is not always easy to be sure I’ve understood correctly… so thanks again for your help.
You may want to have a look here too
Even though the CAA will not stop you flying there, DJI may automatically do so, but it’s generally easy to overcome this.
Do you have the Drone Assist app… it’s useful when out and about. I use it in combination with Drone Scene
I fly frequently in my local airports FRZ (with their permission). Most airports have a web site that tells you how to request permission. If you fly early morning or later in the day, you stand a better chance of getting permission. (I have never been refused so far)
Nelson’s monument is indeed within the fleetlands FRZ and just outside of the solent airports FRZ to gain permission to fly in the fleetlands FRZ you need to email fleetlands.heliport@standardaero.com and call ATC before flying on.
The Heliport Tower is open during Helicopter Landing Site operating hours 0830-1700 Mon – Thu 0830-1500 Fri. You can speak to Nick in the Tower direct on 02392 946416 during these hours.
Normally they don’t operate at the weekend but obviously you need to confirm with them if they are closed the entire FRZ is open and you don’t need to call them.
This flight was outside the the solent airport FRZ but if you want to fly in there zone its a bit more tricky you need to visit there website and download an application form that needs to be completed and emailed to controltower@solentairport.co.uk they respond within 24hours so if you plan on flying in their zone probably best to do it a few days before.
Cheers
Ian
It is definitely not within either FRZ
Here are the two FRZs, and the monument is safely outside of them both:
But - you will need to unlock some, through the DJI app, before your drone will take off in them. So check, and unlock, before you totally ignore and find you don’t have a mobile signal at the location to do the unlocking.
The monument is just outside the FRZ but the Fort just next to it is in the FRZ
Yes he’s a member and he’s posting the information need on my post if that’s ok
thanks for the replies … I think I understand it better now…
