Windsible 24 1:24 scale wind tunnel - although until I get the lighting and camera setup sorted, these are 1:43 models
These are supper cool - know they are scale cars - but besides the cool visual side of thing and how close they are to the real thing, is there a practical reason behind this for you ?
Well… It’s been a long time coming. I backed the 1:24 one on Kickstarter on the 11th of August 2024. By mid-2025 it was obvious it wasn’t coming by November 2024 (!) so I bought the 1:64 one retail. At that point, it was literally a bit of fun. But by 6 year old grandson was utterly captivated by it and was asking lots of smart questions and doing lots of interesting things, so it got a bit out of hand.
We now have a list of things we’re going to try. We have a lot of 1:43 racing cars and one of the things we’ve been looking at is why it’s so hard for F1 cars to follow each other. But we’ve also got Le Mans cars from the 60s, 80s, 00s, and 2020s - prototype and GT - so we’re going to look at how aero has evolved.
I’ve cleared out an unused YouTube channel for the results.
The 1:24 version is $650 - the 1:18 one is $700 (I’m kicking myself for not getting that one) - but there’s also a 1:18 version with a pressure sensitive floor, multiple integrated cameras and more expensive components in the wind tunnel element. That can calculate Cd and front area and centres of pressure… I’d love one of those, but that’s $9,000!
Supper geeky but I love stuff like that.
Nice one.
