Hi zoonie welcome to grey arrow’s. A snow free zone? I have loads of fun taking a drone into the sky and coming back down with ice all over it🤣 one of my favourite parts of flying but that’s just me being weird. Hope you find anything your looking for here!
I take it you have bought a drone already? If you have what model did you get?
Hi Rob, the Mavic Mini looks like quite a classy drone. Nice!
I always thought I would have more time when I retired, but no chance! Before my heart attack, I spent 4.5 years doing up our Georgian pile, since then, I have throttled back, but still have very little time for my toys.
I too have taken the CAA flyer and operator route. So easy, I assumed everyone did it!?
The beaches in N Devon are empty most of the year, so ideal for honing my skills. I’m just wary of the sand and water.
Good luck with the move to IOM. Just avoid the sheep and farmer’s shotguns…
Hi @AquaticJedi , it’s a baphiya RG101 Pro. Highly rated and a black Fri deal.
Take tour time, you’ll love it
Oh ok a decent starting drone. My suggestion would be (if you decide to make drone piloting a common hobby)
To buy a Mavic or Mavic mini open to correction but I believe the Mavic 1 is renowned for problems I used to own one and wasn’t impressed with it so stay away from the original version. I currently use a parrot bebop 2 and a DJI Mavic 2 SE along with two DJI phantom 2’s and I have to say the best one is the DJI mini 2 SE but a good cheap drone with a gimbal is the parrot bebop 2
Also yes having the drone license number on your drone is mandatory but not many people that I know do it (kind of makes the drone look ugly). Yep all drone pilots legally require a CAA license or there can be big trouble🤣
I’ve had nine since release. Fantastic bit of kit, dated but still flys well with zero restrictions on .700 firmware (modded to the gunnels)
Dated but a proper game changer at release
I think @AquaticJedi meant the Mavic Mini 1, Chris - not the Mavic Pro?
Which is still the OG on .700
I’m never selling mine.
Ever
Apologies I should have remembered to put mini in:rofl: yes I have only ever owned mini’s never had a mavic.
I did have problems with video transmission just like the phantom 2 vision and vision plus (got them fixed ages ago) and then gyro gave up and started flying into trees so was time to sell.
Didn’t know the Mavic pro was that good actually (never looked into them). Believe it or not my first ever flight of a drone was a DJI phantom 4 pro that a kind person in France asked me if I wanted to fly when I was young and I found the video feed and wind stability amazing so I got my first drones the DJI phantom 2 vision and then wanted a upgrade so got the vision plus and then my parrot bebop 1 and now my parrot bebop 2 and now my DJI mini 2 SE lol, Long time line of drones. I’m hoping to get a phantom 4 at some point as I loved it so much but the price back when I got my DJI phantom 2’s was insanely high compared to what I could afford. Hopefully might get involved in the DJI Agras T40 at some point for my farm.
Is your farm in the UK?
Dear Tony
I am relatively new to the club and have not really interacted much with other members to be honest. I’m 64 and have been using my DJI Mini Pro 3 for about six months now.
I joined the club primarily because the drone insurance and public liability plans were good value for money. I am quite a private individual even though the bulk of my working life has been involved with teaching and supporting others.
I got involved with drones to further my enjoyment of walking. My first purchase was a DJI Pocket 2, 3 access gimbal camera. Which is a hand held steady cam for blogging/vlogging which ever is you preference. However, to add that extra dimension to my walks and videos of my walks the drone was a natural progression. I haven’t looked back and it has become a sauce of great enjoyment and a real boon for my video shorts on YouTube. (Paul’s Countryside Chronicles) if your interested.
The main reason I contacted you was to wish you all the best with the drone and say welcome to the club. Recently I have injured my foot so have not been able to do any walks, very frustrating! However, things are progressing well and I hope to be back out there soon, drone in tow.
All the best
Paul
welcome Tony @Zoonie
Yeah UK based. Thought it would be so much help cause my old Massey Ferguson gave up on me and it takes too long with tractors anyway
Besides I just really want to see what it’s capable of
Thank you for you lovely msg @Flad.
Sorry to hear about your injury. I hope you are on the mend.
I realise that I am very much ‘entry level’ and also that I will probably not progress far beyond that, but it’s great to chat to people like yourself and feed off you enthusiasm.
Best Regards. Goodnight.
Tony
Wise move, weldone and welcome
it looks like very good value, £170 on Amazon with 2 batteries, decent range, flight time and features. The only thing I’m a bit concerned about is the camera. 4K?? and some reviews I’ve seen seem to have fish eye distortion so a curved horizon when not looking horizontally. Also there doesn’t seem to be a built in SD card so all videos would have to be saved on the phone, although I see that Amazon recommend also buying a 32GB card, so maybe all is well there.
A bit negative of me - sorry, but please let us know how you get on - hopefully I’m wrong! Anyway at that price for a sub 250g drone you can’t go wrong and it’ll get you started nicely. Best of luck and Happy Christmas
