Hi all.
I was not sure whether buying a drone was a waste of money, and then Black Friday tempted me!
I have a RC helicopter, but never really mastered it. But, I hear drones are easier, and you get stunning camera footage.
So… I’m now waiting for everything to click into place. Weather, time and opportunity.
At 67 and having heart failure, I think I qualify as ‘grey’.
I hope to learn from you guys and hopefully be able to give, rather than just take, in good time.
Clear skies and droopy flags!
Zoonie

Welcome to Grey Arrows
Hi PingSpike,
I’m in Bideford, North Devon. Snow free zone!
Hi All. Thanks for the welcome.
Welcome to the club. I was brought up in Bideford and was down there a few weeks ago. I have a video to edit in the pipeline and I’ll be interested to see your contributions as well. A lovely part of the world!
It will be a while before I contribute Howard. I have a lot to learn first, but look forward to flying at Northam Burrows and local beaches.
Hi Tony - welcome to GADC
Welcome mate!
Welcome to the family
@Zoonie Hi Tony, welcome to the madhouse matey, you’ll love it here.
Hi Tony, welcome
Hi. I bought my Mavic Mini just this summer at aged 69. You’re never too old. My neighbours was flying his new drone so I bought his old Mavic Mini. I’m finding it easy to fly. I did the CAA flyer and Operator. The test was not difficult and gives you good info on where and where not to fly. I even marked mine with operator ID which is actually mandatory I think. I was flying on a beach near you a couple of months back as sister-in-law lives in Barnstaple. To be honest, I’ve not flown it too far at the moment. Need to find some open space and better weather. We live on a narrowboat so have some footage where we moor. Makes me a bit nervous flying above water! We are moving to the Isle of Man next spring so looking forward to some good scenery there. Not near the TT course at TT time. A guy was fined £3000 or prison! They are serious over there!
Hi @Zoonie welcome to the Club. I too used to fly the likes of Hirobo Shuttles, Kyosho Concepts, MFA500, etc glow fuel R/C helicopters and it took me some years just to do basic flight - to be honest, they were pretty scary when the rotors were spinning full chat and it wasn’t really that far away (years ago I witnessed someone learning ‘nose in’ flight who subsequently panicked and ran with the bloody thing chasing him at speed!). I have of course moved to drones and can say that they are so much, much easier (and safer compared to R/C helicopters) - take it one step at a time and you’ll have so much fun. All the best
