Newbie from Manchester

Hi all i picked up a Mavic Mini a couple of months back with the intention of using it for surveys at work, I did some research regarding commercial operations and have have just completed my pfco training and submitted it before the deadline so just waiting for it coming through.

Aside some basic practice for the pft and the pft itself i’m still relatively new to the drone scene and looking for some pointers and areas to practice to get some more fly time in.

I am North Manchester based if anyone can help ID some decent areas to fly legally that would be great.

Thanks in advance

Nick

Welcome to GADC.

If you have the mini, as long as you do not add anything to it then you can fly pretty much anywhere now, avoiding any FRZs etc. This is because it is below 250g.

There is now no distinction between commercial and recreational flying.

Your pfco will come in useful on heavier drones.

Hi Nick, I’m pretty new here too and based in North Manchester, Blackley way.

I’ve just purchased the Mavic Mini2 to complement my MP2 to give me flying options on the day… if safe to do so (CofC and 50m rule) i can throw up the MP2, if not I’ve got the option of the mini and can safely fly it pretty much anyware within the rules :sunglasses::+1:

Just the weather that isn’t playing ball at the moment!

Ah cool where do you go Martin I read somewhere that Heaton park is used have you used Bowlee by any chance? I’m in Heywood btw.

I know what you mean with the weather i did my pft on 27th Dec it was freezing and blowing like mad… tricky to say the least.

You should be ok in Heaton Park and pretty much any park run by MCR City Council. Well, I’ve not found anything specific, byelaws etc, yet via their website and Rochdale council are pretty quiet on the topic.

Oldham does have a drone policy to watch out for.

Even though the mini gives you more freedom you just need to check if you need the landowner’s permission to fly/take-off etc. Always best to double-check the area you want to fly.

For practising manoeuvres, I’ve found a nice quiet spot in Boggart Hole Clough (basically over the road from where I live), you get the odd dog walker otherwise it’s a very quiet part of the park.
