Night Mode with the Air 3S

I thought I would try filming at night with my Air 3S. Am I missing a trick? I cannot get the ‘Night’ mode to show on the screen of my RC2 controller. I touch ‘Video’ and all I get is ‘Normal’ and ‘Slow Motion’. I have tried various settings with the camera but it does not show. Today I installed the latest Firmware for both Drone and Controller. I must say though that what I took, a distant city scene, looked superb, cars crystal clear as they travelled along a dual carriageway about .5 mile away.

First of all you need to filming at a max of 4k 30fps - night mode doesn’t work at higher frame rates in 4k.
Apparently, for the Air 3S, night mode is automatic as the drone senses the ambient light and adjusts the ISO to compensate in the range of ISO 100 ~12800.

Above is the best explanation I could find :+1:

Many thanks Jhdee, that all makes sense. The film clip I took this evening came out perfect without Night mode, so I guess the camera did not require it. I will be patient and see if it comes on next time.

Interesting video on long exposures and hyperlapses at night if you want to shoot stills with motion blur. The Air 3S can shoot up to 8 second exposures reliably, but it cheats a bit, as it munges together 4 x 2 second exposures. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptXaGzVWFs4
