Hi, i am a young photographer who is interested in the hobby of drones and currently looking for my first (proper) drone. I have a budget around £400 but i am hoping that will include the necessary accessories like a bag and spare batteries/props. I am currently looking at a DJI phantom 3 4k for £325 from a local stores online website (CEX) as this includes a 2 year warranty and a 14 day return policy. If my budget was a little more extended I would lean towards the mavic air or original pro but this is in the £500 region (used.) My main concern is the size of the drone and if it will be practical to transport, taking it on holiday etc. I am hoping that there is someone local who can give me some insight into what the best option is, primarily something that wont break the bank. I have had a look at the DJI Spark but i feel its capabilities are limited and it lacks the 4k capabilities which i am looking for. Many thanks, Finn
Whilst I don’t doubt the advert is selling a phantom 3 and not a copy for this price. Does it include a controller and battery/batteries?
It not much use without. Unless it’s to replace a lost drone.
Hi Finn welcome to the madhouse sit down and enjoy
Well lucky for you @chrisjohnbaker lives close to Norwich and has several drones of which he is looking to reduce how many he has. I would suggest giving him a shout he has a wide selection of drones and talk you through all your options
He is away for a few days and should be contactable in the new year
Hope this helps
Hi @finnrigney I had a Mavic Air until recently and found it an EXTREMELY capable drone! It’ll shoot amazing 4K that’ll do you proud. Extremely portable!
Also a great option might be the original Mavic Pro, these are a great option and coming down in price used now.
Both great options!!! Should both be in your price range used too.
Another one in Norwich! Welcome. There’s quite a few of us over here now.
There’s rumours of a Norwich piss-up, sorry, quiet drink in the New Year - that will be a good time to get to know folks and have a chat about you’re options and how to get started. We’ll keep you posted.
Yes, it comes with all the gear and main accessories required to get it in the air. I have been in store and had a look at their options at the local branch but there is only a mint condition phantom pro 4+ for £830. They are a reputable company with money back garuntee so I won’t have an issue with it being fake. Many thanks
Personally I’d stay away from the Spark - not sure that’s going to have the capability you’re looking for.
Similarly, I’d have reservations about the Phantom if you’re planning on traveling around with it. That’s why I bought a Mavic. Phantom is bloomin’ huge by comparison!
As suggested earlier - your best bet is to have a chat to @chrisjohnbaker next week. He’s the local guru and has a collection that includes both Mavic generations, an Air and a Phantom. Should help you make your mind up.
I got mine from there with no issues at all. I just got the bag yesterday too from them. Everything arrived when they said it would and was as described. Obviously YMMV but I’ll keep shopping there
