Norwich man fined for flying in airport FRZ and over factory fire

Links to the BBC article as well as the Eastern Daily Press if you can tolerate the ads…

This utter glovebox was caught flying unauthorised in Norwich FRZ not far from a light aircraft, overflew an ongoing factory fire whilst the fire service were still on site, and to complete the hat trick even did a few flights over Norwich prison.

The best thing about the EDP article as it conveniently leaves out the fact that they used his photos of the fire when covering it at the time! :man_facepalming:t2: (see this link)

EDP article says the drone being used was worth £3,500, so not your run of the mill Mini series from Argos :open_mouth:

Exactly the sort of news that any number of drone karens need to prove how dangerous we are with our hobby - our local village hall council want to ban all drones in the village for health and safety… Dohh

On 2 May 2025, McEwen flew his drone to around 1,900ft into the air. He came to within 350m of a light aircraft travelling over the south of Norwich and the pilot of the plane had no knowledge of the drone’s presence in the sky.

:man_facepalming:t2:

Throughout all of these flights, McEwen was required by law, due to the weight and capability of his drone, to be registered with the CAA as an ‘operator’. He had been previously registered but this had expired during the time of offending. He should have also completed a flying competency test for each drone category that he flew in.

Sounds like no operator or flyer id either

What gets me is these idiots post incriminating evidence making it a doddle to be prosecuted. All for a few likes on social media or to have your images posted in a local rag they won’t pay you for… Why are people such twats? :man_shrugging:t2:
