My name is Paul, and I live in The Netherlands, close to The Hague. I actually don’t own a drone yet, but I am doing quite some research to see what model would be best for me. That’s why I have joined the GADC.
My intention is to use my drone mainly for photography, where image quality and options / flexibility are most important features I am looking at. This makes me think that a choice between the DJI Mini 4 and the DJI Mavic 3 Pro would makes sense:
Choosing the Mini 4 would be the easy option as it is rather hassle free
Choosing the Mavic 3 Pro would give me more options (zoom) but requires additonal licenses.
Would you have any suggestions for which drone to buy (assume that budget is not an issue).
As Scotland is one of my favourite spots for spending holidays, I have registered here. I hope I can exchange as much as possible with you, which means that I would like to be a source of information in the future when people are visiting The Netherlands.
Do you know what additional rules EU drone flyers must adhere to when flying drones in the UK? As far as I’ve understood, the drone should be registered. Would it be necessary to get an additional flyer ID and an operator ID?
Any help would be most welcome!
When I would start flying in the UK, I will off course subscribe as a full member!

If budget is not a problem - go with the DJI Mini 4 Pro with the RC controller - has better range than the DJI Mini 3 Pro and therefore less likely to disconnect. Having said that, I’ve never had a disconnect on my Mini 3 Pro hence I’ve not upgraded to the Mini 4 Pro.
Ooops - teach me to read the post properly - you’re absolutely correct Peter @BudgieUK.
Please ignore my comment above Paul @stpauli
From a quality and flight point of view the Mavic 3 Pro is probably the best drone I have used - in flight it is rock solid. However, the weight of it is obviously a limiter as to where you can fly it. This is where the Mini 4 Pro wins as you can fly it almost anywhere - provided you’re not in n FRZ or an area covered by NOTAM restriction.
Unfortunately, EASA Flyerr ID, Operator ID and other qualifications (A2 CofC etc) are not recognised by the CAA and vice versa - following Brexit
For a Mini 4 Pro you will only need an Operator ID but for a Mvic 3 Pro you will need both Flyer ID and Operator ID. These are the requirements as they currently stand but there are moves being made to make it a requirement for the Mini 4 Pro to have both Flyer ID & Operator ID.
Have a look here and don’t be afraid to get back to us for any help you may need
As indicated by Deano above - the Good 2 Go feature in Drone Scene will also help you understand the differing restrictions for both these drones…
Yes I found those website already. If they request a Flyer ID for the Mini 4 too, then it’s just the weight/agility issue vs the quality perspective.
It’s still a hard choice for me. As I take photography seriously, my heart would say Mavic 3 Pro, but probably my head will say Mini 4.
Taking stuff with me when travelling usually is no issue for me, and getting the Operator ID and Flyer ID will not be the most difficult task to fulfill I suppose.
