All taken in is this app available for iOS ?
Lastly am I right in saying the more satellites the better the transmission
Thanks

Sorry, if you are asking what I hink you are asking, you are misinformed

The network of satellites that form the various GPS systems are there to provide signals that allow your GPS receiver to calculate its position in 3 dimensional space.

Transmission between aircraft and the controller (and then via usb to your phone in most cases) is normally by radio taransmission on 2.4 or 5.8 GHz, or both.

Two totally different systems. However @OzoneVibe - Dave’s - observation about wet trees, both externally or full off sap attenuating the GPS signal can also hold true for the frequencies used for aircraft to controller links.

Those big, leaft b*stards are no friends to drone pilots …

Thanks for that I never knew that - I knew buildings play a major part but did not know that trees have an impact too ! So the further your away from most things the better I guess especially tall I take it or am I on the wrong page ….
Thanks for the advice

In some circumstances trees can have a big impact on radio signals. Trees have been used as receive and transmit antennas in rain forests.

Older GPS systems knew where they had been last and had an almanac of satellites. When next switched on they would look for a known satellite then get signal from others to get position.

Transport it a couple of thousand miles, turn on, might not find what it’s looking for, find any satellite, check almanac, find others, get position. If almanac was out of date it could take up to 20 minutes to download from first satellite found then get position!

Caused all sorts of problems dropping GPS controlled loads! Modern GPS systems are much better.

Sounds a lot like the IRS used on “modern” aeroplanes (minus the satellites) :joy:

Just thought I’d put this here as it mentions disrupts the above as it might affect flying

Moved you post to your existing thread about satellites where this issue has also been addressed.
