One Pack - RAF Upwood

No cuts, no edits, no speed changes etc. a single pack flown at RAF Upwood. No indoor flight on this one (this was the nice quad with a weekend off flying ahead, and not been to bandos since 2022!). May make another edit at some point with the indoor shots. We’ll see. Anyways hope not too long/boring. Fortunately nothing broken. Need to go back soon

Oh and first go with AI generated music. Hmmm… Heard worse

You think? Absolutely need to go, lol. We only there just over an hour, and only broke one or two props, lol. Also only explored onto building, plenty to go round. Needs a good few more hours hehe!

If this place were within an hour of me I think I’d be there every weekend…

Was the footage gyroflowed? Looks good, but thought I detected a couple wobbles.
(Not at all thinking that if you learn how to deal with wobbles/jello that you can then teach me… :joy: )

If you’d pulled your finger out, you’d have flown it on Friday, lol!

Yeah it seeming to cut loads. Gyroflow ADDING JELLO I reckon, the OG (maybe I’ll just drop in the OG footage, same length, no cuts, lol), and see! Maybe just need an ND filter

Yeh, I noticed on our BM footage, both of us could have done with higher NDs on some of it. I kept forgetting to switch as the sun went in/out of clouds.

And yeh, throw the OG footage somewhere and I’ll see if it feels more/less wobbly?

Looks awesome. Definitely a full day job

I don’t own any NDs for the O3/Avata, I should probably look into that at some point, can use on both of them (and actually have another O3 on the way for a wing!)

Here you go (unlisted), hate how much GF removes and cuts out to get smooth, but boy does it smooth the flow out a lot! Though I’m pretty stable pilot, lol. Maybe should have rendered at 60fps, instead of 30 for this one?! Recorded at 120. Will try the on board stabilisation again, though that removes rolls and loops!

Yeah and with cover too if needed (i.e. showers, etc!)

I use the Flywoo set:
https://flywoo.net/products/flywoo-dji-o3-air-unit-filters-set-7pcs---nd-cpl-uv

There are definitely cheaper alternatives, but I will say I’ve never had a Flywoo filter eject from the cam during a bump which I did fear at first, thinking I’d be losing a filter per flight. Worth having even if you just put an ND0 in as extra cam lens protection.

Yeh, what I’m trying to do is ignore the actual smoothing which compensates for any jerkiness on the sticks. Instead I’m looking at how much straight lines wobble. 40 & 38 seconds into both clips, gyro/non-gyro respectively, just focus on the lines of this building for example, especially as those lines intersect the edge of the screen/footage:

They both have some wobble, but the gyro’d one much less so in my opinion?

I want to visit this site, it looks amazing!

You exactly right mate. Is less. Dunno which one I prefer now seen both haha! Just get my gopro mounted, and can forget it all and fly analogue, though was very impressed with the penetration behind a number of buildings and a shed tonne of concrete between me and the quad!

Love the way you flew through the building at speed. :+1:

That is one seriously interesting place.

I saw the cars. Are you able to just drive in? No gates?

Googled it and appears people just visit. Interesting place to fly.

Yes worth the trip. We actually pulled up outside warehouse’s initially (the old hangers). I’ll see if I can find the spot we pulled up (yes the cars are our cars). We had to wiggle along the roads which are covered in broken glass and stuff so be careful

I was expecting fences for somewhere like that so that is a good find. Not totally out of our distance. May be over that way one day for a nose. I did see on google there were people visiting the place. Any trouble from other people. Looked pretty empty of people from the vid.

Well was Friday before Big Meet (was 30 mins away from BM, so we went there before the 13:00 start!), long long drive (though actually only 30 mins from my dad, so will bake that in next time). Only got an hour or so there

I’m pretty sure (@bmsleight can you confirm)? We parked at A? We both funilly enough drove from opposite ends of the country, and ended up both near B (warehouses, old hangers) 1 minute apart from each other! We then wound our way through to A. TBH it’s such a big site, they will develop it (and there seems to be development near the main road going on).

There are two others in the video, who are both FPV pilots (one had a plane), and they’re local and go most weekends. I believe it’s one of the few “bandos” that has no issues left in the country. Weird seeing them in the flesh as plenth of decent FPV pilots out there with videos! I did fly inside (might edit that footage up tonight!) and you can go in and walk upstairs.

Oh hang on got some photos of the one near our TOAL point

Upstairs:

Floors solid (just don’t crash on a roof)

Would definitely require a day out! Just camp!

Oh sorry updated map. think we walked up to point C where we flew from. The locals were further up to fly, but parked away from us to let us out!
