OSD data transmission... radio link or video?

I’ve been having immense fun with my Tyro79 pro since many of you here helped me build and configure it.

My question is if I accidentally fly out of video range, will the OSD and its useful data still get displayed? ie is that data sent via the very long range Elrs system that I have, or is transmitted via the vtx antenna.

My plan is… if I go out of vtx range, I then use the gps data, home direction/altitude/speed etc to get home or at least back in range.

I’m running a Speedybee F405 stack
Radiomaster Boxer, Fatshark HD3.

Thanks as always for your help.

There are 2 different types of information. Osd overlayed on the video, which you’ll lose if the video goes, and telemetry which is sent over the radio link. This has the greater range usually, but isn’t on the video, only the tx.
The best way is to activate gps rescue to bring back to video range.

Ahhh I see. Am I right in thinking GPS rescue will work so long as I have Radio (ELRS) contact?

And I guess telemetry sent to the transmitter is of no use if flying FPV?!

Yes if on a switch on your tx, or it will activate in an emergency on loss of the radio link (if set in betaflight)

Yeah. Its just numbers on your tx. Not impossible to fly like that, but very difficult.

Also consider a throttle punch if you start to lose video. Get as high as possible and see if you get it back.
