Hi,
Thats what I would hope, not so much the job losing bit but the office responses coming from a place of authority and accuracy.
To be honest TL:DR
But I suspect you are over thinking it, it’s just a drone go and fly. If someone in office challenges you pack up and move on. But will they…. I doubt it….
take a page out of the auditors book and don’t give anyone your name (or operator number)… even if it’s a council official, there is no requirement!
saw an interesting one with someone in central London who was having a smoke and they tried to give them a fine… bit difficult if you don’t give them your name and there is no need to unless you are being arrested (but the police… or stopped by the police whilst driving).
just go and fly , be polite and pack up and move on if an issue arises… may say you are prohibited from flying in the parks… but not every where else in the county, just the parks.
I would refrain from keeping asking the same question or they will decide they need a policy and create one if you keep poking the bear
I run a site called Planning Geek and we deal with every local authority on behalf of clients.
Many items to a dwelling can be done under permitted development…
One thing I constantly bang on about, is never ask the local authority for advice.
They are not your friends.
If you ask someone for advice, you are likely to get a different answer depending upon their like of drones or their understanding of rules.
Enjoy your drone!
@PingSpike I can’t seem to see any information about Local Authorities in Scotland. I’m new to all this including dronescene so forgive me if it is just a case of me not knowing how to use it. Is there information on Scotland (particularly Highland region)? If so how do I find it? When I click the local authority layer button all the other layer info disappears and I can’t see any new info. Thanks
Hi @cduncan check out this short video which shows you how it all works - confirmed that yes, we did include Scotland in all this
Great thankyou @PingSpike. Can you also answer another question about dronescene. I’ve enabled dronescene to access my location on my laptop and that’s all fine, but for some reason on my iphone it is saying User Denied Geolocation. It’s possible that I clicked on the wrong thing the first time I went into the site on my phone but I have since gone into the website settings on my phone for dronescene website and under location (which was set to ‘ask’) have set it to ‘allow’, however it is still saying it is denied. I’ve tried logging out and back in and it’s still the same. I’m not sure how to fix it. Any suggestions?
Goto setting and location services and turn it on
Thanks that’s fixed it!
Welcome to the best drone club in the UK
Thats how i tend to fly as is, ‘sorry sir, ill move along’ kinda thing.
Totally agree, too many official queries might raise unwanted concerns.
Cheers for the reply
Dronegeek,
Imo your right to bang on about that.
This is why i got the idea to ask the questions here in a friendly unofficial kind of enviroment,
Ty
SparkFPV,
Sorry about that TL:DR. I do sometimes get carried away.
I’ll give a short version.
Given the strong evidence that the approved flying areas on the map are inaccurate. If we follow the dronescene map data exactly are we flying legally and are we still covered by the clubs insurance?
They are not.
If you are that concerned either
A don’t fly
B fly and carry a twenty (maximum fine if you think a drone would fall under the byelaw they magically came across.
Approved ?
There are no flight restrictions and an foi made by the club stated no byelaws were in place
Milkmanchris,
Did you read the post by R3SKT concerning Buckinghamshire and my long winded prattle on the subject?
Im not trying to cause anything here, Im new and have questions. If im putting many kilograms of drone in the air I prefer to have the best understanding beforehand.
The clubs FOI request said we can fly.
The clubs map says we can fly.
The individuals identicle FOI request said we cant fly.
The relevant council websites say we cant fly.
What sources should be believed? If it turns out something happens. Am I liable or insured?
Thanks for the reply tho. I do tend to carry a spare 20 incase i accidentally punt an annoying kid in the pond.
Part of my concern here is not wanting to give drone flyers in general and this club now i’ve joined, a bad name.
You deffo cannot fly anything that heavy in that area
Your plastic toys thought are ok
Yup, your right there.
Even with article 16 finding worthwhile, vaguely appropriate places is a pita for sure. It’s one reason i’m a fan of the sub 250’s under current rules.
Shame, They scare the crap out of ramblers and yappy dogs alike
