Philips Memorial Park Godalming - Added to Parks and Recreation in South East

I have just added this to the map of places to fly your drone at Drone Scene:

Land owner permission requirements unknown.

Fairly grotty day but a nice park running along the River Wey. Apart from the river bowling club and parkland there is a church on the hill, allotments and a bandstand to photograph. Being an urban park I expect it to be quite busy on a sunny day.

The originator declared that this location was not inside a Flight Restriction Zone at the time of being flown on 31/03/2024. It remains the responsibility of any pilot to check for any changes before flying at the same location.

The only trouble with flying this side of the river is that the general public are there in moderate numbers, and there can be quite a few dogs off leads. It’s not a big problem, but one you can easily avoid by flying from the Lammas lands directly opposite this listing, on the other side of the river.

Parking for that is in a lay-by just beyond the railway bridge you pass under when leaving Godalming by the Church road towards Peperharrow. You can then walk back under the bridge where there is a step-down style entrance to a (usually empty) vast field from which you gain excellent views over most of the North side of Godalming and over into Farncombe, but without any of the tree or ground hazards present on the other side. Also people seem less worried about ‘privacy’ if you fly from the non-park side, and it is much harder for them to get to you and accost you during your flights !

However, this land, whilst public, is not very ‘managed’ and is easily waterlogged, so wear boots if the weather has been wet recently, and stay away from the large flood pools that form near the middle sections. On the plus side - excellent GPS reception and visibility of river and overpassing bridges for cinematic shots of those.
