Hello, I’ve a bit of a strange question I’m struggling to find a solid answer and DJI are taking their sweet time coming back to me.
On the Mini 5 & Air 3S the 50 megapixel when shooting raw the default is to 16:9, but I’ve heard on a couple of YouTube videos this is actually a cropped image from the 4:3 format?
Can anyone confirm if this is correct? If so I’d be better to shoot in 4:3 to get more data to work with in post as I’ll be able to crop to 16:9 if needed.
To shoot in a 4:3 aspect ratio on the (DJI Air 3S) (which uses its full sensor), you typically select the 9:16 vertical video mode at 2.7K resolution, which uses the full sensor height, or use Frame Guides within the camera settings for composition, as the Air 3S captures a wider 4:3 sensor area that you can frame later in post-production for different ratios like 4:3 or 16:9.
For Full 4:3 Sensor Footage (Open Gate Style)
Open the DJI Fly App: Launch the app and go to the camera view.
Enter Camera Settings: Tap the three dots or camera icon to access settings.
Select Resolution: * Find the Resolution & Frame Rate settings (often a box showing current res/fps).
Choose Vertical Mode: Select 2.7K 9:16 or 1080p 9:16 . This mode uses the full 4:3 height of the sensor, giving you more top/bottom information than standard 16:9 video.
Using Frame Guides (for Composition):
Access Settings: In the DJI Fly app, go to Camera Settings.
Find Frame Guides: Scroll down past Grid Lines to the Frame Guides option.
Select 4:3: Choose 4:3 from the list of aspect ratios. This adds a frame overlay to your screen, showing you what the final 4:3 composition will look like, even as you record in 16:9 or vertical.
Hope that helps. Love my AIR 3S. I dont have the Mini 5
Thanks for the information. I’m fast starting to love the Air 3S. Less flight time to get the same results as the mini. Just need the weather to clear up a little in the North West to get out again when I’m off work.
Oh, also, thanks for scaring the bejesus out of me with your screen name! When the email notification came in I thought it was a warning order from the Military. Had a proper flash back for a moment haha
