Photos on DJI GO4 App

I don’t really use the DJI GO4 app for editing so hadn’t been looking in the photos section and thought I had set up not to capture to phone, only to sd card.

Today I discovered that the app was using more than 6gb of my memory and then found some only some videos but all my photos within the app

My question is that as I started to delete images I noticed that some photos are marked as ‘original’. Anybody know what this ‘original’ marker means?

I Had a worry that these may be photos that had saved on phone and not on memory card?

To confirm this is with Mavic Air

I used to have mine set up to add photos to my phone but it’s stopped doing it. It does store videos and overwrites when the allocated space is full. It doesn’t save all my photos in the app, only some, but what I did find in the past was if you turn on the drone with the last photos and videos still there and leave it connected without actually flying it will transfer them to your phone. It seems to have a delay before doing this.
I have looked at what I have within the GO4 app but it doesn’t mention anything about ‘original’

I’ve discovered exactly the same. Doesn’t seem to sync photos whilst in flight - only when it feels like it afterwards.

I tend to turn off so quickly to retain as much battery as possible, that rarely seems to happen.

I need the RAW from the SD card anyway … so no real loss.

Im just (as a newbie) getting my around how the app manages the photos. With just over 1hrs flight time on my very first drone theres a few things im tryng to figure out. :stuck_out_tongue:

One of them is why when I download the photos via the GO4 app its downloading them at a fairly low Res 960 x 544 . Is this some kind of thumbnail or something ? . When I plug the drone into my PC and use Assistant 2, the fully res photos are there on the drone to be copied off.

Is there a setting im overlooking perhaps? (very likely im sure!)

Cheers

Steve

Yeah - the Go4 app will never win a prize for file structure logic or efficiency of storage space usage.

Check your settings under the camera/video settings button - about 3/4 the way down the right side of the Go4 app - then select settings (cog wheel) and then about 7 items down “Auto Sync HD Photo (On/Off)”.

Also - I’ve never wasted Mavic batteries using Assistant to get the photos and video off from it … I always whip the card out and do it in a fraction of the time.

Cheers for that!

I’ll check it out. And yes, reading from the card will be how I do it when I they arrive! Its taken me a whole 5 days of Dronowenrship to get to ordering a couple of memory cards. Doh! :stuck_out_tongue:

PS Already got a 128gb class 10 (U 1 is it?) I know its not good for 4K vids but is it any good for Photos ? Just while my new memory cards arrive.

What sort/make of cards have you ordered?
If you are going the 4K route you will need V60 or V90 Cards.

Personally I see little point in cards over 64GB.

  • Even a M2P’s battery-worth of 100mbs 4k won’t use that.
Swap battery = Swap card. Less chance of “something” ruining what you’ve already taken/recorded.

  • The more clutter that accumulates on the card, the more chance there is that it slows for your M2P 100mbs.
New flight = clean reformatted card. (Always format IN the M2P … never on another device!)

  • 2 x 64GB are usually cheaper than 1 x 128GB … so easier to justify the highest spec and make.

Oh oh, this is when I thought I’d ordered the right thing…

Says its good for 4k but no sign or a V60 or V90…

oh ruddy’el I’ve just spotted that it said V30 in the description. Spec table. Thats what I get for ordering something at 5am!! No wonder they were cheaper than some others I’d seen.

Think I saw the headline 100mb/s and clicked away. :frowning:

This was my take on it too. 64Gb surely plenty enough for video. I mean to take in one session. Of course have other 64gb cards but surely the right spot for storage.

That’s one of the problems with SD card marketing. “4K video” means diddle-squit.
Compress 4k video enough and it can probably be written, real-time, to a card that’s 10 years old and cheap then. But - it’s still 4k amongst all the compression artefacts.

For any card, it’s the sustained write speed that’s important, and with the M2P you NEED 100+mbs for it’s best 4k.

Right, I’ll be ordering another then. Bit gutted to have made that mistake, im usually more savvy thatn that. Not so much the cost at £25 for them both (Clue is in the price I tihnk!). I can return them.

Better get a card or two ordered then

I have been using Sandisk Extreme 32 gb cards (red and gold coloured)
Not had a single problem with them.
These are the 64 gb version !, but, I use the 32 gbs.

I should add, that I have used these on the Mavic Air, again with no problems.
As you have the Mavic 2 Pro, you may have to look for better spec ones than this though !.

That card is fine for a Mavic or even mavic 2.

Mavic 1 max bit rate is 60Mb and Mavic 2 100Mb.

That’s only 7.5MB/s for MP and 12.5MB/s for M2P.

V30 cards are good for minimum 30MB/s (240Mb)

V60 and V90 card work on UHS-II interface which is not supported by either mavic so card will just operate on UHS-1 and be a waste of money.

So any U3 card is good to go. Anything faster is a waste of money.

just spotted this one on Amazon !

Rated at 160mbs !

Thanks for that Chris.

Good to hear youve not had any trouble from them. Its usually Samsung or Sandisk that I opt for. :+1:

That’s the card I use in M2P.

I like the Sandisk extremes.

It’s V30 so rated at a minimum sustained write speed of 30MB/s (240Mbps).

The U and video speed rating are minimum standards and intended to make it easier for people to choose the right card.

In theory any U3/V30 should have double the sustained write speed of that required by a M2P or P4P

Aah ok. Thats good to hear actually. Might be well worth giving them a go then.

Thanks for the advice Callum.
