Places to fly - Yorkshire

Good afternoon folks

Havnt uet had the opportunity to get out with the drone due to weather. I am a member of a local golf club and I have asked them permission to fly there while the course is closed. Am I legally allowed to fly there if they say so? I know the air space is governed by the FAA and not meant to over recreational areas. But where do I stand? It’s a moorland course and obviously empty. Ideal to try out the camera and controls.
Cheers

Where are you in the world?

If they say no, they can stop you taking off from land they own.

And what you flying?

Can only answer from UK perspective. In UK CAA is the airspace authority

The first consideration is that Covid-19 recommendations do not include drone flying as a permissible recreation. And driving to a golf club may be frowned up due to the distance involved.

If the course is empty then you won’t be close to buildings or uninvolved persons. Depending on your aircraft type and weight and your qualifications the limitations vary.

This may help

Afternoon, I’m flying a DJI Mavic air 2. The golf course is only 10 mins from me which I am a member at. Great place for me to go for a walk with my son as it’s such a big open space. Rather than walking around places like reservoirs or parks which are packed! I’m in Yorkshire in the UK.

I understand COVID restrictions and that could include flying my drone. But it’s not much different to someone walking in the exact same place taking photos with a normal camera.

Thanks for the responses.

Secondary question is I am hoping to take the motorbike over to France, when allowed! Does anyone know if there are any other tests or registrations needed to do so?

UK, Yorkshire

if its red then your out of luck

Although not specifically mentioned, drone flying is pretty similar to your golf, recreational and the consensus is that it’s a no no (I’m not the drone police, by any stretch of the imagination).

Golf courses are great places to fly, I use my local one all the time (well in more normal times, with permission, not that it’s needed if I take off outside their land.

Have a search for threads for France, they like you to register. I’ve flown a lot there on holidays, just be wary of the privacy they are super keen on it.

No where near a red area. Still havnt heard back from the club yet but fingers crossed. Weather is gash anyway at the minute. Thanks for the responses.

The France thread I mentioned

Thanks for that. When I get over to Europe I would only fly it out of the way. Not near towns and villages. I have been looking online for registration for France but I haven’t yet managed to find anything. Thanks.

I have just gone through the info and vids and completed the test. Looked at the registration and can only register there if I haven’t registered in another European country. Obviously I have registered in the UK so I’m assuming I dont need to register in France?

looks like it

FAA is America. CAA UK as far as i know we are nothing to with America.

Yes it was a miss type that I didn’t correct. Thanks.

I did it on my golf course in November during lockdown, with no issues whatsoever
Providing there is no CAA restrictions like, near and airport, I can see no issues as there are no golfers on the course
I had to watch that the green keeping staff were aware I was there and you need to watch for the odd public right of way, which some courses have

Cheers for that. Just waiting for the guy to get back to me. As long as they are ok with it I’ll nip up and make sure I’m out of the way. When it’s not snowing, or raining, or windy, or foggy!!

June then ;o)

Where about’s in York’s are you, I’m over near Goole in the East Riding, but West Yorkshire born, bred and buttered.

Haha ye your probably right! I’m from Halifax. Go past goole regularly. Either to coast for work, or to get away at the coast for a few days. When we can!
