Police Scotland investigating 'aggressive' drone pilot

There is definitely more to this than is being reported

Though, for a change, the comments aren’t making my eyes bleed yet.

So a member of the public with no drone knowledge decided to interact with a drone pilot, who no doubt was in control of his drone and no doubt was trying to concentrate, thus public busybody was curtly asked to eff off, obviously took umbridge and decided to complain to the police, was this a woman called Karen?

Only (slight) mitigation I can see is that they were flying in the FRZ for Inverness Airport (though presumably flown with permission).

Oh, and somebody looks to have posted some unhelpful “No Drones” notices (apologies for the quality - that’s as good as it gets zooming in on Streetview)

Of course, it’s made the news…

A few years ago i flew my drone at Chancery Point in the hope of seeing some dolphins. I was approached by an aggressive man who was foaming at the mouth and shouted at me that i was not allowed to fly there as it is near the airport and there are signs forbidding flying drones. I was within the permissible limits for height according to the distance from the airport. I had not seen any signs. So, i told the man i would bring my drone back in and look for the signs. I was treated to a further torrent of abuse as the man declared i had no intention of bringing the drone back in. Eventually he moved away while I brought the drone in. After a search i found signs in the car park. I had not parked in the car park but had walked onto the point. So, the man was technically correct but the signs were inadequate and he was extremely rude. I still don’t understand why drones are not permitted provided flyers play by the normal rules.

It is within the FRZ. No way around that - shouldn’t be flying without permission regardless of signage. Don’t know if the chap in question had permission. There’s a lot to the story we don’t know.

People are going to get (possibly rightfully) upset about flying close to the dolphins as well. It would be a lovely spot to fly but a couple of things count against it.

Including if it was in the FRZ

:person_shrugging:

That’s a valid point. I assume it was (because there’s naff all else going on out there ), but it’s right on the edge so entirely possible it wasn’t:

And even if it was, Inverness is hardly the busiest of airports nor the most difficult to get permission from.

The bit in the red is the bit with the lighthouse, the dolphins and the car park so it is probably a safe bet that is the location

Almost lay odds on it, but in the words of a wiser man ;o)

People today are more aggressive towards anything, not just drone operators, whatever they want to ask about, they don’t just ask about aggressive behavior and how to behave when people around are so rude.

On a happier note, it really is a lovely spot to see big fat dolphins, from the shore.
