Porthcawl - Added to Coastal Scenery in Wales

I have just added this to the map of places to fly your drone at Drone Scene:

Land owner permission not required.

Plenty of parking paid and free.

This is a tourist hotspot so be wary when you opt to fly. I went on a cold, dank June day and found it mostly deserted. YMMV.

The originator declared that this location was not inside a Flight Restriction Zone at the time of being flown on 14/06/2019. It remains the responsibility of any pilot to check for any changes before flying at the same location.

Love this narrow capture.

This is an iconic spot when a storm comes in, but also a highly dangerous spot.

Thanks. i took this on my first visit to Porthcawl on New years Eve 2015!

I worked in Cardiff for 10 years and would pop over after work several times a month for sunsets etc here, Nash Point, Dunraven etc.

I still visit the area several times a month, not least for the excellent gluten free fish and chips from Mansells

I’ve never known any wave to bother me if I’m standing by the old coastguard lookout (round white tower), eastern end of prom/start of beakwater, but a few yards either side of this spot (which is the most iconic for photographers) is asking for trouble!

My preferred spot is the shelter on the headland at the western end of the prom using telephoto. It’s a little higher up, so the backdrop heritage coast cliffs can feature more in the composition, and, because you are out of the wind, is much more comfortable and you can sit down and use a tripod. And it’s very safe!
