Porthkerry Viaduct (Porthkerry Park, Barry) - Added to Bridges in Wales

I have just added this to the map of places to fly your drone at Drone Scene:

Land owner permission requirements unknown.

Lovely park area with a very scenic Viaduct with dual rails going across. There is a large field on the side I took the photo from. There is no access to this field nearby. I took off on the car park near by the arches of the bridge. Please note this is within a FRZ of Cardiff Airport. Applied at https://nsf.nats.aero pretty easily and had confirmation the following day. Once on-site you call Cardiff ATC for permission to take off. They’ll ask you to confirm how long you plan on flying for, you’ll agree to terms over the phone and they give any required warnings. You call them once you are finished. This was my first time applying to fly in a FRZ and it was very simple.

The originator declared that this location was inside a flight restriction zone at the time of being flown. Permission to fly was obtained from NATS/Cardiff Airport. It remains the responsibility of any pilot to check for any changes before flying at the same location.

I want to fly here @vrsdazitup, but there are no parking or take off and landing markers. Would you be able to add some to the map please?

On my list as well, great spot. TOAL should be no problem ras, there are several car parking spots within the park and a lot of open space near the bridge. ATC may well request you to keep to certain times, this is directly on the approach flight path if the wind is in any westerly direction, which it usually is; the end of the runway is about 200 yards behind the camera postion in the photo, and perhaps 100’ above the viaduct level.

Used to go here as a kid and play ‘sink the Bismark’; bit of wood, bottle, tin can, chucked into the sea and chuck pebbles at it from the beach. The sea washes the pebbles back up on to the storm bank for use next time. Good spot for driftwood fires as well.
