Potensic Atom 2 App issues

Flew my Atom 2 this evening to try out some of the AI features and all I managed to do was crash the app, the screen changed to black & white and froze. Controller remained connected to the drone and everything worked fine from that point of view. Restarting the app, it said no controller or drone connected.

It happened quite a few times, sometimes using an AI video feature other times doing 2 things at the same time on the controller, eg camera angle & drone speed. I couldn’t manage to nail it down to anything specific. Don’t think it’s the drone or hardware, it was fine prior to this evening - the latest firmware was prior to the app update.

Each time I landed the drone, didn’t want it to use RTH which was a large uneven rock, turned it off, turned off controller, killed app and started again.

First time I’ve flown it since the recent app update so I’m putting it down to that, no problems until tonight.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this with the Eve app?

Potensic asked me to try the other data cable they provide with it. I have a Pixel phone, the other cable is a lightning :frowning:

Update - now they’ve asked me to borrow an iPhone. I don’t actually know anyone close enough that has one, round trip to Manchester for the nearest. Finally convinced them to send a replacement USB-C.
New cable coming from China, UK warehouse has none in stock.

I have done the update on mine and have had no issues, I am using an IPhone. Just noticed you put you are coming to the Beacon park meet up, we can have a look then and use my phone to check

On Faceache, someone has said it’s a known issue but they’d only heard of it on Android.

See you at Beacon.

Deleted the app and installed for a fresh start. Flown all 3 batteries this afternoon, no problems. End of thread, hopefully!

After 3 evenings where it hasn’t faltered using 3 batteries each evening, I set out today to log a few dronescene places. Sure enough, batteries 1 & 2 wasted trying to get it fly more than a few minutes before the phone/controller connection failed.

I thought it could be the controller battery, maybe it’s a power issue the more it drains but battery 3 killed that thought, flew with no problems at all.

The new cable is coming DHL from Netherlands based on the language used in the delivery update.

New cable has arrived, clearly not meant for my drone & controller :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:
Sums up the day. Went to buy an ebike (2 hour round trip), dealer gone on holiday and not bothered to even put a sign on the door, let alone their website of Google. Headed home via Farmfoods, nearby building works have taken over the car park. When asked where to park, the classic builders answer, don’t know.
Forgot that we stopped in a village close by the dealer for brunch. Cafe opening time 10am, still closed at 1025.

Is this the cable you need? And they sent you a lightning cable for an iPhone? They do a usb c to a usb c cable, although when I copied the link it showed up lightening cable.

I need the USB C to C cable which technically they sent but they sent me a pack of Atom SE cables which are shorter made worse by one end being a straight, not right-angled, connector. At least I got a full set of 3 wrong cables, C, lightning and micro

It says they have 1 left in stock for the usb c to usb c, it did say delivery tomorrow but now it doesn’t.
I will bring my Potensic on Sunday and will have a look if my phone works,on your controller

It doesn’t say in stock because I bought it, thanks for the link

Latest installment. Prosthetic’s 2nd attempt to get a usb-c cable to me has yet to arrive so in the meantime I bought one from Potensic’s Amazon store. That worked great at Beacon and earlier this week. Today it worked well until the 2nd flight of a second battery and it disconnected. Landed the drone (controller still works), turned off drone & controller. Killed Eve app, cleared cache and tried again. Flew another battery before I set off home.

I’m 99.9% sure it’s the app but Potensic say cable :person_shrugging:

It’s got to be the app, and not the cable

I got a new atom 2 a week or so ago and am experiencing this same thing on android. Are there not any known fixes still…?

I’ve had 3 cables, all failed at some point but I’ve not had a problem for a while. When I put the phone in the controller, I have it seated further towards me and the cable sits in the phone nicely in the gap to the right. I use the black markers on the controller to guage where to place it. The cable must be in the gap on the right and feed out of the hole.

I’ve just bought a widget to mount the pione above the controller, not tried it yet but it’s handy to show you how far towards the aerial I have my phone.

If you want a quick swap of USB cables to try another, buy one from their Amazon store and when you get it, check it works and if it does, use Amazon returns to accidentally send the old one back for a refund :zipper_mouth_face:

Interesting… so there is some evidence that it’s the cable not the app.

What’s weird is that without fail I can resolve the issue by turning off the controller, closing the app entirely (even from my recent apps dashboard), then turning the controller back on and letting it relaunch the app automatically. That doesn’t feel like a cable issue…

Separately, it happens seemingly randomly, but it does seem to happen more often when I’m doing things in app, like switching video recording modes, etc. That’s anecdotal though.

Alas… I have ordered another cable though, hopefully that solves it.

I’d be real curious to hear other people’s experience though if we have other data out there.

Thanks!

I never thought it was the cable, still don’t really see how it could be, but since I started positioning the cable as described, no problems so could be wrong. I also did the same to reset it and get it working.

You can get support through the in-app chat and they sent my first replacement cable but it took nearly 4 weeks having sent completely the wrong cable first hence my Amazon workaround.

I had more severe (essentially intractable) issues with my android phones/controller/drone. I don’t have much faith in their hardware or software and Potensic Customer Support stopped responding to my messages after they’d sent out a replacement cable, which didn’t fix the problem. I might have simply received a dud unit, though.

If you’re on Android, updated app is available today.

And today they’ve rolled out new firmware.
