Potential Brownhills meetup place - Brownhills Common on The Parade

I came across this quiet location yesterday while taking photos of the Tin Man.

Does anyone know if the field is busy or not during Sunday mornings, and whether it would make for a good meetup place?

That looks like Pelsall common which has lots of trees. Parking would be difficult especially on sunday mornings due to church goers to the nearby church. Im not sure how popular/busy it would be with locals. Maybe someone who lives nearer could comment.

Nice place for a walk mate, but nowhere for you to park and two very busy roads to cope with (A5 and Chester Road). Loads of trees to lose your drone in as well.
Not Pelsall Common Barry, Brownhills Common! Not many trees on Pelsall Common except around the edges (we used to play football on the full size pitches that used to be there, and the Carnival takes up a lot of room every summer).
You could try Pelsall North Common by the Royal Oak bridge, there’s been construction work on the bridge for a few months, so there might still be restrictions on it. Small parking area, and paths aren’t really wheelchair friendly either.

Thanks for the info @Hotrodspike . I turned around in the car park but didn’t really notice the trees cos I was dodging the potholes!
I’ll look at the other place now.
Cheers,

Just had a look on maps and it looks like it could be a good spot to fly. Not sure how busy though. I know where it is, but never been there.

Yes, I wondered if it got used for football etc on Sundays because the satellite images imply markings there.
I wasn’t taking much notice when I was briefly there, only afterwards did I think it might be somewhere to consider, unless it already has been considered and dismissed.

Which canal is in the background of your profile pic?

I used street view and it looks like a decent spot. Even if it’s just for a short fly.
The canal in my background pic… Honestly can’t remember. Most likely the Llangollen canal, we spent a lot of time there last summer. Kayaked Whitchurch to Llangollen in sections.
That’s kinda why I got into drones. Well, not entirely, but I certainly want to get some shots of us kayaking.
I got some last summer with a much cheaper drones and there were ok, ISH.
Now I have a DJI and can’t wait for the weather to get back above 12°c so we can get back out on to the water.
Oooohhhh. I remember now. It’s Colwich. Not sure what the canal is of hand, but we got on at Colwich.

You’ll be familiar with where that collapse is then!

Were you able to limbo underneath all of the lift bridges?
And the Ponty-whatsit. I wasn’t happy crossing it by boat - being lower down at water level on a kayak would have suited me!

Filming yourselves by drone should be good. No worries about flying from a boat, because you can just land on the towpath.

I know Colwich lock quite well - I recall helping someone who fell in. Trent and Mersey canal.

Been over the Aqua duct a few times now. Even had a Mexican standoff there last summer with a barge captain who tried to ram us.:joy: Long story.

Sounds like you kayak?!? I’ve managed to get under one of the foot bridges, but the others seem too low.:joy: There are a LOT of spiders underneath those things.
We go kayaking twice a week once the temperature is back up. Me and the wife go most Wednesdays, the we meet up with her brother on Saturdays and go again. We have a few people interested in joining us this summer as well so could become quite the social thing.
Plenty of room in our Armada for more.if you fancy it.

No, I just watch them speed past our boat - usually. I’ve never really thought about the lack of headroom before, and the Llangollen has loads of them.

If you’re around the Fradley area, I’d like to do some drone footage, activetrack type stuff etc.

Fradley is one of our regulars.
Drop me a WhatsApp message and I’ll be sure to let you know next time we go there, I’ll message you my number.
We’re only on Willenhall so Fradley is one of our local places. We get on at the plough in Huddlesford and paddle to the swan at Fradley junction.

Can’t imagine we won’t be there as soon as the temperature gets back above 12°.
I’d be happy to let you know ahead of time so you can film.
