Printing keyring fobs

I’ve currently built it up in 4 layers of different heights:

Base plate (grey 2mm)
Flag and drone legs (green 2.5mm)
Drone body and props (blue 3mm)
Lettering (black 3.5mm)

If anyone thinks this could be improved, or has any other suggestions, then let me know.

OK, STL as per above for anyone that wants it.

Cool…

I think I’d go with:

I’ll give it a go…

I never really considered it in terms of multiple colours, just what might work in relief.

But of course, it wouldn’t actually look exactly like that, although I’m sure there are clever ways of getting the slicer to do different parts in between spool changes rather than just according to height?

My slicer will only do filament changes at level changes. It would be nice to be more fine grained, but I’m not aware of any way to do it other than with a multi-filament module or similar.

Anyway, it’s printing now. I will post a photo when it’s done.

Other thing to make sure you do is enable “ironing” to make the surfaces nice.

Adjust your layer height? A smaller layer height would mean more layers so can change filament at a finer position?

Yes that could work… Of course the colour change would still be visible at the edges of the print… which depending on what you’re printing may not be desirable.

Wow never changed filament mid print… looks great…

My printer makes filament changes a doddle. Does much of the work for me… unlike my old one…

So the design is good…

However I do have concerns over the loop. It doesn’t look very strong.

My first attempt:

My printer didn’t seem to want to extrude for a few seconds after the last colour change so the drone is all black

Also my 1st layer was awful

Love the colours

What did you use to take that photo? Nokia 3310?

Was a DJI Pocket 2 - But they released a firmware that “improved” it to only take photos at 480x320

PS. Loving these keyrings and colour changes… Gonna have to give that a go

Tend to agree. We can probably beef that up. If you’re attaching to the end of a chain like PingSpike linked to then it’ll probably fare better than if you were to put directly onto a split ring.

I probably wouldn’t want it to have those angular corners when I sat down with it in my trouser pocket, either. :

:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Here is my attempt which I thought I’d do slightly different to give some choice.

Will print it when I get back…

It’s evolving…I’ve still got my dual head printer which I was about to sell off…

This is not ready yet as .stl
