United 737 MAX had an in-flight collision with an object, shattering the windshield at 36,000 feet near Salt Lake City on Oct 16th 2025. This was unlikely to be a simple cracking of the windshield but impact damage from an unidentified object. Speculation suggests possibly part of a weather ballon, ice , meteorite or space debris
After landing, it was clear the inner ply of the windshield’s laminated structure was severely shattered. The flight panel and console surfaces were contaminated with fine glass particles and visible impact damage was present on the external surface of the aircraft nose.
United made a statement that does not explain the cause "Flight UA1093 diverted to Salt Lake City due to a crack in the outer windshield pane. The aircraft landed safely without major injuries reported among passengers or crew.
