RAF Harrington (former) - Added to Everything Else in Daventry, East Midlands

I have just added this to the map of places to fly your drone at Drone Scene:

Extract from Wikipedia - "Royal Air Force Harrington or more simply RAF Harrington is a former Royal Air Force station in England about 5.6 miles (9.0 km) west of Kettering in Northamptonshire south of the village of Harrington off the A14 road. During the early Cold War it was a Thor missile site, designed to deliver atomic warheads to the Soviet Union. The nuclear missile site is now protected as a Grade II listed building as an example of Cold War architecture."

Not a lot left to see but its a slice of history. There's a memorial to the USAF crews who died during WWII

The originator declared that this location was not inside a Flight Restriction Zone at the time of being flown on 28/06/2025. It remains the responsibility of any pilot to check for any changes before flying at the same location. Landowner permission may be required before taking off.

Thanks for that. It’s not a million miles away from me, so I must have a look.

There are several of these Thor sites scattered around the UK - they survive mainly because the distinctive L-shaped blast walls have proved to be remarkably resistant to demolition

Google view of the Harrington site.

All UK launch sites each had 3 launchers.
