Probably a bad cable, try another one
Thats the problem 2 new cables a month is I think excessive
Which brand of cable are you using?
Either the cable quality is poor or the situation you are using them in is damaging it
I would also check the phone connection but it sounds like the cable is failing
The standard connection is the same but its a short cable and once connected there is no movement
the only difference with the drone-mask setup is the cable length and the phones not on the controller
Various - the one which was supplied with the drone mask, van dens + 2 different alleged high quality cloth braided , had similar problem with new non oem short cable which wouldn’t work out the box.
Can’t all be poor quality. No strain on cables plugs between two zips on mask ( all of plug inside )
I’d check the USB ports for debris or moisture. Could be a phone compatibility issue.

Fluff in the port on your phone is most likely culprit
Depends where your getting them from, have you tried another phone
Will get the blower our and see it the bad cables can be brought back that way. Am using samsung phones ( s9 / s10e ) running lineage.
Alternatively, could use a short cable and litchi cast to dorne mask, would also solve the problem of picture stopping when drone distant.
angled usb cable would be a better connection,
I would say cable as I’ve had a few new cables the slightest movement cuts out signal it’s a royal pain.
Lineage? You kept that quiet and it’s a good contender for the issues your having, DJI Fly compatability isn’t the greatest. If checking your ports doesn’t yield any obvious issues I’d go back to the stock ROM instead and there’s a good chance that’ll solve your issue. Or use another phone.
Replacing with a fresh cable solves the problem so don’t see how that would reflect an OS compatibility issue, ( if reboot fixed I might agree ) also stock cable supplied works. Not found any other compatibility save the CO-OP banking app ( fixed by changing to Nationwide ) .
I tend to re-flash/root all my android devices.
Think my best option is to get some long angle ended leads as @ziceman suggested and perhaps keep some contact cleaner in the drone bag.
My supplied N1 cable is like that. Touch and and its RC disconnect. So i just replaced the cable.
FWIW no issues on Lineage 18,19 or 20 on my S5E tablet and DJI Fly.
