Recommend a 5inch frame - Dead Cat

Has anyone got some good suggestions for a 5 inch frame, freestyle more than anymore, and don’t want to spend a fortune on it. Martian did eventually lose more bits on Sunday (as expected, as it was already snapped and zip tied after Upwood), so something solid, but not heavy (don’t wanna spend a fortune on a grindarino for example).

Have an AOS V3 I love, but nice to have something else. Not sure I want a mario, maybe a TBS Source One, what was it that you recommended @Earwig (can’t for the life remember?!). No rush on stock, etc.

Just gonna transplant what’s in there now, so summary:

  • Not LR/thin, but move super duper heavy/robust, mid ground
  • To carry a vista, and usual larger stack
  • Not massively expensive (under £50?)
  • No rush, as be a while before rebuild!

Cheers all

Speedybee Mario 5 - DC option

Been looking for a 3.5 inch frame myself and keep seeing these pop up.

Reviews seem to be good and the 5 inch version looks solid - just in budget too

Yeah found that in stock and that exact link actually, watched JB review, he loves it other than apparently quite heavy… (196g from memory). Does look good, Guess there’s always Nazgul frame, but I think the look of that, and think it’s what Jez recommended too.

Mario DC cheaper (I can print the bits in my own colours), or this I’m thinking about now…

I’ve seen cracking reviews on it and see it mentioned in many videos on tiktok etc.

The website seems to suggest that its now lighter than before but unsure if that relates to the stock at unmanned tech or not.

Very tempted for the 3.5 inch and the 5inch looks cracking and solid

Yep. These were my last two frames. The 4inch LR dead cat to replace the GEPRC Crocodile Baby and the Volador 3inch to replace the Darwin 79. Very happy with both of them.

The 4in is still suffering the after-effects of Chesterfield.

From what I can tell they seem to be better made than the darwin’s.

Reports of a slight breeze breaking arms on the darwins on reddit :joy:

Can’t help but recall this video when I see “Dead Cat” …

Definitely. Thicker plates all round. Although it has taken the 3" from a sub-250g that was happy with a 3S to an honestly-officer-I-could-have-sworn-it-was-sub-250g that needs a 4S.

Although the '79 served me well and was great value for money. The Baby Apes are great little starters, too. Just can’t be too rough with them.

Yeah my plans for a sub 250 3.5 inch are long gone. I have an OG air unit I want to use so there is little chance I can get under 300g unless I spend even more.

It seems that even though they are smaller the cost will be similar to that of a 5inch build

If you do go with a Volador, maybe I can send you mine and you can put the one that’s been on my bench for 12 months together too?

Happy to do that!

might take a year or two

I build for others far quicker.

And it’s still flying as far as I’m aware lol. Wasn’t my fault walksnail over heating issues…

Woot woot. I actually have it mostly built, I just need to get the soldering done. Did you order anything yet?

Mines an O3 build, Xing 2406 1700 motors (going for a chill/cine vibe on it), Mamba F405MK2 V2 30mm stack, and hopefully an M10 GPS if I can find where I put the standoff 3D print I’m pretty sure they shipped with frame…

If I don’t get my ass in gear in next 2 weeks, I’ll DM you for shipping details and booze build costs…
