Searched using key words but couldn’t find a direct answer. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Awaiting my Mini 2 purchase and I am plotting out some areas to practice. The local green is very large, but it resides in a red Aerodrome (located at the centre of the picture) just North of Salisbury. No FRZ is associated with the Aerodrome.
Is my understanding correct that I can fly (per 400 feet and <250g restrictions with VLOS) in the red Aerodrome without needing approval, provided I am not encroaching on an FRZ? I understand I can communicate with whatever entity oversees the ATZ to make them aware of my presence, but I understand I am not required to do so. There is a local parachute operation that I intend to be well clear of while maintaining awareness of my surroundings. Thanks in advance for any corrections or for confirmations to give me peace of mind!
Another way to frame the question:
The Southern RED circle is an ATZ, but not an FRZ (i.e. when I de-select the ATZ filter but keep the FRZ filter the red circle disappears).
Seeing as how the drone code specifically names FRZ as requiring permission, I take this to mean the ATZ zone (not overlapped by the Boscombe FRZ in the North) is safe for me to fly my Mini 2 in the A1 category,
Am I wrong or misguided? Thanks in advance.
By the looks of it the ATZ is for Old Sarum Airfield which I believe closed at the back end of 2019. Had a look on SkyDemon and there is no longer an ATZ there for it, however is still showing as a parachute drop zone so may be worth trying to contact the airfield if possible. Also out of interest, spotted an interesting NOTAM local to you!
Hope that helps.
Which app is that @jordans ?
SkyDemon, mainly use it for GA flying but sometimes comes in handy with the drone!

Thanks very much for the reply @jordans . I’ve reached out to the airfield directly as they appear to have some activity by request and are ramping up activity post-COVID. I’ll post a follow-up here once I receive a reply from the airfield.
RE: The parachute drop zone, They operate on Wed, Thur, and weekends and I plan to stay well away from their activity.
RE: The interesting NOTAM, I’m still learning how to decipher all of the aviation terms and such but it appears to be some serious drone flying!
