Reflector FPV Goggles (DIY Project)

Hi Hi.

My use case:

  • Need to wear glasses 24/7, swapping lens is a pain
  • I have analogue today and may want to go to HD Zero (via HDMI) in the future
  • I have 3D Printer and some CAD/Engineering skills

There are a couple of interesting products (now discontinues) fxt-viper-v2 ( Bartwell’s Review of Viper ) Or Hawkeye-Little-Pilot-VR-All-in-one

So I am thinking of buying a small FPV Monitor and experimenting making a ‘reflector goggle’ . With the Monitor able to take HDMI input (now or in the future). I am thinking 3d-prints, foam and mirrors. First version maybe ugly with lots of cables and batteries…

Questions:

  1. Anyone use these reflector goggles - fxt-viper-v2 or Hawkeye-Little-Pilot-VR-All-in-one ?
  2. HDMI HDZero RX-Module If converted to RCA (analogue) - any significant lag ?
  3. FPV Monitors in general (random example) - any significant lag compared to traditional analogue goggles ?

Yes, DJI is wonderful but £££££. Yes HDZero are good, but wearing glasses is hard unless you have lenses - then I need to swap glasses.

Thanks for any pointers.

Why would you want to convert HDZero into analogue signal Brendan? That would just defeat the object of going digital in the first place. Plus add additional lag to the system

You can get prescription lenses that slot into most fpv goggles which you could install into whichever goggles you end up with and leave them there permanently. Alternatively depending on your prescription some of the higher end goggles have built in prescription adjustment

Yep I have them.

But real pain swap between lenses and glasses.

I dont understand, the lenses stay in the goggles surely?

FPV Monitor (version 1), may not have a HDMI input to make it lower cost. I’ll set up a test of the lag at a converter at weekend, hunch is <20ms

This would be a very interesting build to watch though

Yes, then I need to find wear I left my damn glasses. Everything a blur without them. (Astigmatism )

Around your neck on a cheap glasses lanyard?

But then youre losing any advantage of going digital. I haven’t tried it myself but Ive seen other people try putting HDZero through DJI goggles analogue input via converters and the lag was really bad and image quality awful

Thanks. Rules out analogue only monitor.

Anyone used Monitors ? (Rather than goggles)

Not seen it but Im sure someone will have. Might be worth a youtube/google search

Definitely a cheaper option than building your own box goggle, not as much fun though
