Remote ID for DJI Phantom 4 and Inspire 1

Does anyone have any details of a CAA approved RID device or if DJI are going to update their firmware? I fly a P4PV2 and an Inspire 1, I might get lucky with one but unlikely with the other .

Even CAA don’t know the specs yet.

Thankfully you / they have until 2028 before it becomes a requirement on the Phantom 4 and Inspire 1.

Check out your drones here:

Thanks for the update, I would have thought that the standard would have been available by the time the deadline was in place. I think that the drone scene update is most helpful and makes decision where to fly easier .

Honestly, the way things have been with drone regs this decade, I genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if the CAA puts a hold on the whole thing before January 1st and we just go in to another year of legacy limbo. :grimacing:

They’ve done it before

I suspect you are right, although it would be disappointing, I guess we will have to wait it out. I am surprised that DJI have not responded, I would have thought that they could deal with the issue easily, but probably have other priorities as in the USA edicts.

They are doing by releasing (at least) 2 new models yearly

I am in exactly the same position - I have a couple of P4P drones and an Inspire V2 plus a Mini 4K (sub 250Gm fortunately!).

Hi Bob, I’m in the same boat as you.

Responded to what Mike @Hobby3?

The requirement for the Phantom 4 and Inspire 1 to broadcast Remote ID is still another two years away yet.

Interesting question. I have a Phantom 3 Pro and an Inspire 1 as well. So would be nice to know, although I believe we have 'till 2028 before we have to worry.

As already mentioned above @icarver @shaw_bob @jimvfrmoto750 – you’ll find the Remote ID answer here for all your drones

DJI have sorted the remote ID issue in the USA by doing a firmware upgrade for the P4P which seems to have done ‘the business. I have 1 P4PV2 and 2 inspire 1 aircraft, this could get complicated and expensive to sort them out!

Don’t forget you only need to buy one RID transmitter, you can then attach it to whichever drone you’re flying at the time.

Lots of 3D mounts or velcro or cable tie options available

The Inspire has the oomph to carry a small (probably not cheap) transmitter module as do P4 machines. The little Mini 4K is more of a problem. If the location (etc) transmitter could be tied to the controller that’d make things a lot easier - the data coming down includes location etc anyway. I don’t mind a beacon light, I always fly with extra lights anyway.

Thanks, the question is really about the future. Grandfather rights would be fine, but…

No problem

It needs to be on the drone
