RIP Mr Drone, lost at sea…

Any chance you could provide the appropriate equivalent information for IOS, please. I’m in a bit of a knot getting to grips with Airdata, which looks as if it will be an excellent resource once I’ve managed to sync it to DJI Fly.

Sync from your DJI account

Will give that a try, Sparkyws, tx again for the advice!

Follow this

Will do.

Attacking the problem from the other angle, I managed to negotiate the Coverdrone claim form and submit it today (I’d been having trouble with the reCatchpa, which would not load after I’d clicked it. It behave today, so progress is taking place. I’ll check in here if there’s anything to report, but Dan from Coverdrone was very helpful on the phone yesterday.

Get the Airdata sorted

Easier than navigating a claims form

Confusion reigns here in the mean inner-city suburbs of eastern Cardiff. I can’t get to grips with the Airdata procedure to setup the syncing with DJI Fly, because it keeps telling me there are no flight logs to sync. I’m guessing that I have to have the drone connected to DJI Fly for that to happen, and the problem with that is that the drone is full fathom five in the Bristol Channel. The information is in DJI Fly, but I can’t access it without the drone being connected. I’m giving up for now, coming back to it tomoz with a fresh start. Is this because I didn’t sign up to Airdata before losing the drone, or do I have to upgrade to a paid version? Sorry if these are stupid questions but I’m out of my depth here, gentlemen! So of course is Mr Drone…

You dont need the drone or have it connected

In the fly app go to profile, settings, sync flight data and make sure Auto-Sync Flight records is enabled

Then go to profile, and more (below the distance) and that will show the flight logs and they will sync to the DJI server

Then follow this in airdata

Once set up use the sync button

When you have done all that you should see your flight records

Let me know when you get to this point

Unfortunately I’m not that guy I am a little out my depth.
I can explain it to you but I can’t understand it for you if that makes sense

The flight records are stored on whatever device you were using at the time. You can upload to airdata from there.

Success! Let Joy Be Unconfined! I have managed to find the flight data on DJI Fly, and after a bit of faffing about and with the not inconsiderable help of Sparkyws and some otthers who I am sure will not mind me singling out Sparkyws for mention, have finally managed to upload said flight data to Airdata. Phew!

Problems with this have been entirely down to my own technostupidity (other forms of stupidity from Johnster are available), and I am grateful for your help. I will now spend a hour or so replaying all my flights and critiquing them.

The flnal flight record shows that battery was low, but had nearly 3 and a half minutes left by it’s own reckoning when the aircraft started behaving erratically. Several things happened very quickly then; RTH was pressed, the emergency low battery alarm sounded, and RC contact was lost as the drone fell into the sea. I’ll leave it all for today now because my head is buzzing with apps and flight information and I need to download a bit, and I’ll have a go at uploading the Airdata tomoz!

Thank you all again for your efforts and patience with me, especially Sparkyws!!!

Share the link to the flight and I am sure @SparkyFPV will assist in deciphering what when wrong and we can all learn from it

After all that’s what the group is about

No worries its what we are about helping each other

To share the flight data, select the sea death flight from the logs on the left and click the green share button on the right

then the Create a unique share link

Copy the link and post it here

I think that may be the link to Mr. Drone’s final flight data, with any luck and a following wind! There’s the last 10 seconds in video as well, but there is a lot more actual information in the flight data; the vid shows a view over Cardiff Bay lagoon for about two seconds and then a blurred grey as the drone span into the water.

I can’t see why the drone would behave like this with battery remaining, albeit not much but on the face of it enough to have got me home. i still think gull attack is a possibility if not a probabllity, but neither the video nor the data is able to definitively determine that. There were gulls in the vicinity and I didn’t see them in the fading dusk light until after the drone began to drop; they were following it down…
