Risk Assessment for non-commercial flight

hi, I am looking to fly non commercially over a property in Ayrshire soon and to get clearance, they are asking for a completed risk assessment. Can anyone show me what is required here as i have never been asked for this before. Is there a format that is normally followed?

I’m not sure why you need a risk assessment to fly over a property?

Try a few searches @Zipco as this has been covered a few times in the past.

Here’s one such example of a risk assessment template you could use or modify to suit: Wedding venue have requested risk assessment and insurance - #37 by JockyB

thanks for your reply. Its over a Kings Foundation site. Ive been trying for weeks now to get a flight arranged, now this is the stumbling block as ive never done a risk assessment before. I will take a look at the one you posted.

They are pretty straightforward and not too taxing. I’ve done one before. Plenty templates out there.

You don’t need anyones permission to fly over Dumfries House

Seemingly you do if done legally.

I used chat gpt, to create the template I used for my granddaughter’s wedding. Then edited it slightly ( to include the names of the bride and groom) :+1:

Very true… but good luck finding anywhere for TOAL that’s not part of the estate.

Only spot within ½km is the footpath beside the A70 and there’s a chuffing great hedge in the way.

By the way, @Zipco. When I flew there they also wanted ÂŁ10m public liability insurance. Is that still the case, or has that come down now?

No, you really don’t need permission to fly over it, they don’t control the airspace

As Joe suggests, if you’ve only got a small drone that can’t maintain VLOS over a greater distance then you may wish to seek permission to take off from their land.

It’s an excellent starting point and again, try a few searches on here for other examples

Which mapping website is this @JoeC ?
It looks ideal for checking radius areas.
Thanks

Thanks @milkmanchris . I now realise that on my screen, the empty square (!) above the “measuring tool” says “circle tool” when I hover over it. Not the green square /circle as on Joes screenshot.

Cheers.

What device and browser is that on, and what mode do you have on (auto/light/dark)

And we can take a look at that for info this is mine on iOS

hi JoeC,
When i mailed them i did mention that i had ÂŁ5m insurace cover and they didnt comment on that

I have a square circle now (eh?).
I use the noscript extension, and fontawsome.com was not allowed.
I allowed it and the circle appears - so it was just my settings.
I swap between waterfox and brave browsers, but the noscript thing was my problem.
Thanks again.

Like councils, they are not your friends.

If you are operating legally, you don’t need to contact and ask them.

Unfortunately, when folks do - you end up having to meet their terms which are not required

thanks for your info

Nail on the head, I’ve done the same on many occasions. Don’t get sucked into an organisations policy bollocks that means sweet FA if TOAL’ing from outside their property.
