It’s 22:00 on a Saturday night. You are probably expecting the announcement of a poll to pick the subject for the next RTF competition. Unfortunately that is not so. You will have to wait until September 8th for new competitions to start.

The reason? All our brightest and best have been forcibly drafted volunteered for Birthday Challenge boot camp. In just seven days these mild-mannered and gentle people will be transformed into unforgiving, ruthless Challenge judges with no trace of humour, humanity or compassion.

And in seven days you will be starting the much-anticipated:

You can compete for the fun or get serious, plan your campaign and go for one of the top voucher prizes worth £200, £100 or £ 50 to spend at Drone Safe plus membership discounts for the three winners. There are free competition entries for competitors down to the seventh place and, in addition to the top three winners’ badges there are gold silver and bronze for those who complete all or certain numbers of the subjects irrespective of their total score.

Old hands will have an inkling of what’s ahead, newcomers stand by - you are in for a fun ride!

St Crispin’s Hospital clock tower

St Crispin’s Hospital was a large psychiatric facility on the outskirts of Duston village in Northampton. It was established Northampton Mental Hospital in 1876 and closed in 1995. The site has since been redeveloped for residential use with a small mental health unit still remaining there.

The hospital was used as a filming location in the 1977 series of Doctor Who, in a six-part story called The Talons of Weng-Chiang .

The granite quarry of the world at one point Penmaenmawr dating back 5000 yrs. The quarry clock was installed in the 1930’s reminding the workers of the time. 12 ft in diameter, it stands proud of the landscape and can be seen from the A55 Expressway.

Very heavy crop on the building thought put it in just to get the numbers up, was my original intention for the comp but the building swallowed up the clock so I stuck the original in the daily photo thread :upside_down_face:

Only got back in the afternoon and rushed to get the entry done and posted, forgot about the details

Someone could’ve promoted me maybe🤷

As you will have seen from posts above one image was missed from the poll due to incompetence by the intern left in charge of RTF while everybody else had gone to the big Birthday Challenge meeting. down the corridor. The fairest way to resolve this, in our opinion, is to start the poll again, so that is what we have done:

Due to a limited number of entries we are asking you to vote for a maximum of just two images as your favourites this time. The poll closes at 22:00 on Monday July 22nd.

@group-challenges

Wow, by the grace of God . Thank you very muchly :+1::+1:. @Challenges_Committee (Rob).

It was totally my incompetence in the first place not to add the details. Doh🤣.

I was thinking how ironic it was while walking the dogs that the first RTF I enter this year after not much flying due to being ill, work and the blasted weather, then scouting around Anglesey in an effort to find a clock, then having to travel to North Wales 35m there and back and some effort in…i forget the details on the entry:rofl::rofl:.

Here’s the only clock I could find worth anything on Anglesey. It sit’s outside the rail station in Holyhead, and although rather handsome, the background and sky need slight attention , and I don’t think by the time I’d finished it would of been deemed admissible as an entry

Sorry about the bad service over the last few days but there is nobody left in the RTF cubicles but me and I’ve only popped in to nick some copper wire check security. They have all joined the Birthday Challenge crew and are busy down the Prop and Gimbal getting blootered on cheap cider.

I noticed the competition is finished so without further ado:

In second place is our late entrant (our fault entirely) Ady @Leylo1971 with an intriguing shot of a once important clock in the Penmaenmaw quarries. A fine shot Ady!

And first place goes to Mr Winter - @MrWinter who we think is a first entrant with a great shot of the Albert Clock in Barnstaple at dusk:

As for third place - consider yourselves all placed, congratulation to everyone and see you in seven weeks time!

We hope you are all entering the Birthday Challenge and Treasure Hunt - plenty of time to devise strategies, do your research and get out there! Truly a reason to fly!
