One of the attendees at this mornings Nottinghamshire meet, stated that he was going to give this one a go.

Me & @Earwig both thought he said, that the topic was “MILF’s” :flushed::flushed:

I even turned and asked him, if he sure, because that’s not what I read the theme to be. :joy:

Cobstone Mill, Turville (near Ibstone), Buckinghamshire

Too far south for any dark, satanic stuff, so went for something more bucolic… Drove to three in the same area, but preferred this one.

From Wikipedia - Cobstone Windmill - Wikipedia
Cobstone Mill was built around 1816 on Turville Hill in Buckinghamshire, England, and overlooks the village of Turville. It is a smock mill that replaced the original mill that had stood there since the 16th century. The machinery was previously used in another mill in the village of Lacey Green.

It was a working mill grinding cereal until 1873. Later, squatters living in the mill caused a fire which damaged the centre post. After this time the mill went further into deterioration. In 1967, for the filming of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the mill was cosmetically restored. The cap was remoulded, and a new fantail and light wooden sails added.

The mill and cottage were purchased in 1971 by Hayley Mills and her first husband Roy Boulting, and extensive conversions and remodelling of the interiors were completed as well as interior and exterior restoration and conversion of the mill.

The mill has been used as a film location in other films and TV programmes including:

I had googled mills in Scotland and this was the first one that came up. Back to the drawing board … I mean google :mag_right:

Theres a nice website called mills of Scotland, worth a look. But feel free to show what a proper photographer can make of it!!! Give me something to copy for next year

I might take you up on that Darren, depends on what else I find :grinning:

I’ve added the details on Dronescene . Its an HES site and don’t like you taking off from their land. Plus a lot of the buildings have been turned into flats and some of the residents get a little shirty. There is easy access accross the water

The Halnacker Mill was originally built for the Duke of Richmond and the Goodwood Estate, it was first recorded in 1540. The mill was made completely of wood with two millstones used for grinding wheat and grains. The current mill dates back to the mid 18th century and was a working mill until it was struck by lightning in 1905.

Interesting story with this one. Originally the ore mill for a lead mine about 2 miles up the hill (aerial ropeways! fantastic things), it was eventually bought by “businessman” Joseph Aspinall who added some useless but convincing fake machinery to the broken stuff left over from the mill’s earlier working life, glued some shiny ores onto the walls of a nearby mine tunnel, posted “guards” to protect the workings, and pretended to investors from London that he’d found a new, highly lucrative silver mine. Another local miner knowing the area was more famous for lead than silver (though there were small traces of silver as well) got suspicious, reported Aspinall to the police and he was put in prison for 22 months. On leaving prison the conman moved to France…where he tried the same thing again, and got put away for 5 years. Somewhere along the line he also apparently tried something similar with an oil field, and got another 4 years in prison!

Stanley Mills, Stanley, Perthshire - Mini 3 Pro - 30/10/2024 15:40

For 200 years, this spectacular mill harnessed the power of the River Tay to produce textiles. Built in the 1780s, the mill complex was altered many times to keep up with the industry’s changing demands, before it finally closed in 1989. It is now a tourist attraction.

A big thanks to Darren @mynameisjoe for the shout out on this location :+1:
