RTF March 2nd to 15th - Bridges - Vote for the Winners

Thanks so much - due to an infected tooth I’m currently on some very strong Amoxicillin tablets.
Again thanks.

Here’s a bit of a contrast to the beautiful bridges posted by others…

The extremely grotty, soon to be demolished footbridge over Bonney St, Blackpool
Originally constructed to provide access from the prom area to the long-gone multistorey carpark attached to the courts & police station complex, its remaining life can now be measured in weeks as the whole complex is currently being demolished, though the steps will probably survive as they are part of a fire escape.

I considered that, but thought it had already Been demolished.. Last time I was down there it was when they had “Light the streets festival”. Had a bunch of guys with flame throwers letting rip, absolutely fantastic. I’ll see if I can dig out the photos I took.

This is how far they’ve got with the demolition - tough going as it’s all steel reinforced concrete, so it’s going to take a couple more months at least. I think the police tower will be last to come down.

Will have to take a nosey with my little flyer.:smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Getting frustrated because I have what I think is a good spot/idea for this one but I haven’t had time to get out and capture it, fingers crossed I’ll have some time in the next 2 days :crossed_fingers:

Newport Transporter Bridge

It is one of fewer than ten transporter bridges still in operation globally, with only a few dozen ever constructed. In Britain, it is one of just two functioning transporter bridges, the other being the Tees Transporter Bridge.

Taken 05/03/25 ~17:15 with DJI Mini 4 Pro, at Stannells Bridge near Stratford-upon-Avon.

This carried a (now abandoned) railway line over the Avon between Stratford and Honington, which has been converted into a walking/cycling path. Studies and talk to reopen the line resurface every few years, but the whole scene is also under threat of a ring road spanning over (!) the top.

The Tees Transporter Bridge ceased operating in 2019, and it’s reckoned it could easily be another five years before they fix it.

Aw! Love that bridge.

I’ve been up top on it (before they installed the lift). Never visited the Newport one yet, I need to get down there one day!

I was doing a stint of relief pub management at a pub in Middlesbrough (1980’s) when I first saw the Transporter Bridge, fell in love with it.

The Clyde Arc (better known as the squinty bridge), Glasgow

Despite it being only 50 minutes away, this is the first time I’ve dragged myself out of bed for sunrise on the Clyde. And honestly, I’d just assumed John (@Drumsagard) would beat me to it for this challenge

In my defence, no-one specified what type of bridge it needed to be. And no-one had done the joke yet, so I’ve opted for the nautical variety (along with the ship it’s attached to).
