RTF Photo Challenge March 1st to 14th - Rivers

Way back in the mists of time you voted for Rivers as the subject for the next round of RTF. Acombination of bad weather and a judge taking a holiday the NHS expense meant that that round has been delayed but now you can all rush out and find rivers to photograph - if the sun doesn’t come out and dry them all out!

RULES

The usual rules apply, reproduced here as we know you faithfully read, digest and abide by them every round of RTF.

The requirement is to submit a single still image created using a drone to illustrate the subject of the competition. This round will run from 00:01 Sunday 1st March until 23:00 Saturday March 14th 2026; the subject is IRivers

The image must be captured while the competition is open. It is a Reason To Fly Challenge so please show that the image is created by a flying camera!

Editing is confined to colour and exposure adjustments and crop only. There must be no removal or pasting of an object. Stacked images, HDR images and non-spherical panoramas are considered single images for the purposes of this competition.

Images must be posted with the following information as a minimum:

In Capitals as the first line of your post:

THIS IS MY ENTRY

If this is not done at the time of posting the picture will be ignored. Should it be necessary to change your picture then delete the previous picture and add “This is my entry” - as above - as the first line of your new post. If in any doubt contact the Challenges Committee
(@Challenges_Committee)

Further Information is required

  • Location
  • Time and date
  • Aircraft/camera used
  • Feel free to add any further information that you think will be of interest

Voting

The members of GADC will judge images. They may vote for any number of pictures through an anonymous poll open for two days after the closing date for competition entries.

Voting in the poll is open to all GADC members, whether they have entered the competition or not.

The Challenge Committee may request the original media in case of a dispute.

Schedule

The competition subject will be announced every second Saturday around 22:30. The subject will be chosen by a poll of GADC members selecting from three that have been picked at random from the subject list. You may make additions to the list at any time.

The competition will run from Sunday 00.01 to Saturday 23.00 fourteen days later. Voting by poll will be open for a further two days until Monday 22:00

The winner (and second and third-placed competitors if there are sufficient entries) will be announced shortly after the vote is closed

Have Fun! Be Safe!

All flights are the sole responsibility of the individual conducting them. Each competitor must abide by the drone code and adhere to the limitations and restrictions imposed upon them by aviation law, the aircraft being used and the qualifications they hold. If you suspend a prune from the tower of Pisa you can tell if your prune is plumb. If a flight is undertaken in a restricted zone proof of permission having been granted is required.

Slight problem Patrick,

The picture needs to be taken between March 1st (today) and Saturday March 14th.

Oh, ok, I thought the taking period had been back dated. Never mind.

Ok, bit of confusion probably caused by me taking an unexpected NHS mini break and extending the period of the previous RTF - shadows. And making the decision that, due to the incessant rain, shadows were a rarity in February.

So let’s allow this entry to stand.

Quite sure? I don’t want to upset the apple cart! What was the NHS visit for?

“Floodgates” have been opened - pun intended

Burrow Mump with the River Parrett winding behind it.

Taken at 07:30am on 02 March 26.

It wasn’t my attention to capture the river, but seeing as it’s in the photo I thought why not submit it to the challenge.

I’m a little bit challenged when it comes to the immune system after two years of chemo and I picked up a nasty (and embarrassing) urinary infection that gave me a high fever and the need to empty my bladder every few minutes - with about five seconds warning before it was impossible to close the floodgates (thanks @Ian5!)

Pumped full of antibiotics and then home with a week’s supply of pills o can now venture outside my front door without having to run back into the house to relieve myself.

So things should be back to normal. The only problem is that i was alone a lot of the time in the hospital andhad just a phone with various apps installed - including eBay. There are a couple of big purchases coming now all the small ones have been delivered, all will be revealed in the “Today I treated myself to this” thread  :money_with_wings: :money_bag:

Still tidal, and passing thru the heart of industrial Teesside
Only 40 years ago this was undoubtedly the most polluted waterway in the region, now you can spot a whole plethora of wildlife from deer, aquatic birds and even seals basking on the warmer days on the mud flats at low tide, Ive even tried and failed  to photograph kingfishers along this stretch in the past

The river Chess is a chalk stream which goes from Chesham to Rickmansworth. At Latimer, the river is dammed in various places to make fishing lakes. The large house on the right, is Latimer House, a Victorian rebuild that was used by MI5 for interrogation of capture Germans.

At last the weather has improved and I used SunPosition app to arrive when the sun was shining down the valley.

Five bridges over the River Ayr

Fool’s Spring has sprung, so it was sunny but thankfully still a bit cold for ‘taps-aff’ on Saturday morning for the monthly Ayrshire Farmers Market in the square at the Cutty Sark Centre.

My haul this month included a stop at Cuore Italiao for focaccia, cannolis, and a jar of homemade pesto.

Then a quick stop to capture the view for the challenge. You can just make out the supports for the fifth bridge between the arches of the fourth in the distance.

The spire on the right is Ayr Town Hall, designed by Thomas Hamilton and built in 1830.

On a short family trip to Blackpool, I had a very short weather window and time to fly, due to commitments, so to have a clear morning like this was a true gift. There was a bit of wind at altitude as the drone, kept stopping mid program when creating a wide-angle. It took three attempts to get this
